Re: HP Cloud Recovery Tool returns error “Product ID does not match or is invalid” with valid Prod I

Thanks again Paul. Checking the Bios for the product ID shows the same L8R69AV as the product number. It seems so crazy to me that this HP software won’t accept the Product ID that HP provided on their label and in their Bios. What’s really odd is that upon typing in the product ID above, the error is appears the second I type the last character - it’s as if it expects it to only be 7 characters long, and just decides that they’re not compatible.

Yes, I have tested it too and have had the same results as you did.

The minute you start typing it is telling you that you have entered an incorrect number.

Very frustrating.

I think once you enter the full product number and press the enter key, it works.

But I am pretty sure you need to enter the #XXX

But since there seems to be no record of the last 3 characters that go after the # sign, I have no idea what to tell you.

Try entering the #ABA after your product number.

I found a link to a 15-w105wm (same model series as yours), and the full product number is:  X0S29UA#ABA

Just for the heck of it I tried adding #80CF, as 80CF was listed in the bios as the System Board ID. Figured it was worth a try, but no dice unfortunately. It’s also unfortunate that I have no way to ask HP without paying $50 or whatever their one time fee is, for their failure to provide an appropriately formatted product ID on my machine.

Nevermind. I’ll take the other route as you proposed. Thanks ever so much for your help with this. I’ll let you know how the fresh install goes. Going to take the opportunity to upgrade the drive to M.2 since I have the machine open. Hopefully it will last a bit longer than 3 years and the performance gains will help me forget all of the trauma and inconvenience this episode has caused.

All the best,

Andy.

Sorry, that didn't work.

I figured you had nothing to lose by trying it.

Anyway, post back and let me know if you need any help with the drivers.

Once you get connected to the internet, install the HP support assistant and it should download and install most if not all of the drivers you need.   The download is the orange button on the upper right side of the page.

Re: Scandiavian Keyboard. Backslash not working!

Thanks for trying to help Sandytechy20, but I finally managed to figure it out myself.

I looked into creating my own custom keymap, downloaded the Microsoft tool and everything. One thing this tool can do is to analyse a keymap and look for errors. One is missing keys... However, there were no missing keys in the original HP Danish Keymap... so the backslash must exist.  And it does!

Just to the right of ALT GR, on a key marked with <, > and | it is hidden!

Press ALT GR and this key... and you get the backslash.  \\\\\\\   🙂

On my machine theres even a very hard to see backslash in very faint blue on the physical keyboard. It does not light up with the keyboard light, and I have to turn on quite a bit of room light to be able to see it.
I must have missed it earlier when I tried pressing every single key on the keyboard. Probably because pressing ALT GR and this key is quite awkward .

, Welcome to HP Support Community!

HP does not support or recommend the use of torrents. Run a complete antivirus scan as your Pc might have been infected by the virus.

Run a System File Scan

If you can’t open the Downloads folder at all, there might be corrupted system files. The System File Checker fixes corrupted system files. As such, that might also fix the Downloads directory. You can utilize the SFC utility in the Command Prompt as follows.

  • Open the SFC utility by pressing the Windows key + X hotkey and selecting Command Prompt (Admin) on the menu.
  • Input ‘DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth’ and press Enter before you initiate an SFC scan.
  • Then enter ‘sfc /scannow’ in the Command Prompt, and press the Return key. The scan will probably take up to half and hour.

SFC scan

  • Restart Windows after the scan if WRP does repair corrupted files.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Basically -- NO -- as unlike with desktops, laptops generally use specialized hardware which is not interchangeable between different models.

Re: CHENGE WINDOWS SLOW MY LAPTOP HP 530

With a Win10 PC, you're going to experience a variety of problems not typical of the older PCs.

First is sluggishness. You may experience a very slow PC at times because Windows Update (WU) is hogging your PC, searching for, downloading, and installing updates -- to bring your PC up to the most current version of Windows. This can also contribute significantly to high processor temperatures, as it is being heavily used.

Second is fan noise. That's directly related to fan speed, which is the result of processor heat, and WU is known to drive up the processor load -- sometimes to 100%. That can cause the fan to run loud and continuous for some time.

Third is disk usage. WU can easily force the disk usage to 100% and and keep it pinned there for some time. That's because it writes WU files to the drive, then it turns around and reads them, then it overwrites existing Windows System files. All of that takes a lot of disk usage to complete.

These processes are compounded by Win10 because new Win 10 patches coming out nearly every Tuesday. Since you can't stop Updates like you did with Win7, this means you're going to get updates, regardless of what you do.

To find out what version and build of Win10 your PC is running, do the following:
1) enter "cmd" (without the quotes) into the search area and select the Command Prompt option
2) enter "winver" into the command window (again, without the quotes)
3) The most current Win10 versions as of 7/9/19 are the following:

a) v1803: Bld 17134.915

b) v1809: Bld 17763.615

c) v1903: Bld 18632.239.

If yours is older than that, most likely WU is hogging your PC trying to update it.

Some folks have been told that resetting your PC will fix this. but, if you reset your PC, you only make matters WORSE! Why? Because you will reset Win10 back to the original version that came preloaded on the PC and that will restart Windows Update all over again.

To disable WU temporarily, do the following:
1) Enter "services" in the search area (again, without the quotes)
2) When the window opens, scroll down until you see Windows Update
3) If it say Running under status, that indicates that WU is running
4) To change that, double-click on that task, select Stop under the Service status, and then Apply
5) That should stop WU -- and you should see an immediate improvement in performance.

If not, then WU is not the problem.

WU will restart itself automatically later on, so you basically have no choice than to bear with it until it finishes.
