Lost all of my information!!!

I believe I have an HP Chromebook (forgive me, I bought it years ago.) My account is set up through my school email and I recently changed my password for that email due to hacking reasons, I go to log on today and it tells me I need to enter my new password, I do, then it asks me to enter my old password. I entered the password I KNOW it was, and it tells me it was wrong, so I tried every possible password I have ever had, with no luck. So it let me bypass but it deleted some of my apps off my computer and all of my downloaded/saved files. How can I get these back?? I have pictures and important documents that I desperately need.
TIA!

Recovery Partition updates

I was asked last week by a neighbour to help them with their HP laptop that had become unbearably slow.

Windows Update/Store updates and HP updates were all incredibly painful to download/install often freezing up.  The Windows UI (start bar etc) would lock up when you clicked on anything, and yet as the laptops used by their kid only, there was almost no apps installed.

I tried 3 HP factory resets, but each time as soon as the HP tool started loading the 3rd party tools, I could see it start.  In analysis I could see I/O was the issue, with the HD being hammered by system processes.  But the hardware passed every (offline) test I could run.

Eventually, I abandoned HPs recovery and installed a stock v1903 Windows build.  The machine is now much more responsive.

So my question here -  Does HP ever provide an update to the Recovery partition ?  It will install a really old build of Windows 10, that immediately, as of 1903 would be unsupported.  I couldn't see anything in the support utility to do so.   Whilst I have the knowledge to be able to download a WIndows 10 ISO, build a USB stick and get windows to boot from it, my neighbours wouldn't know.  But they could in future follow F11 -> Reset PC.  But only if its actually up to date.

I'm pretty convinced it was one of the the 3rd party bloatware that HP added to the build, maybe McAfee thats probably not compatible with some update.  But theres no choice not to install all that rubbish (that's instantly out of date).

You may try updating the Bios, chipset and graphics card drivers on your PC either from our HP support website, using this link or download it using HP support assistant.

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

No, that why we call it is the partition for Factory restore/settings, back to the time opening the box. Many TRIAL applications won't be there.

They aren't drives, they are partitions -- and no, without removing HP_TOOLS, you can not have the two partitions combined because the HP_TOOLS partition is right in the middle between them.

I do this ALL THE TIME -- and I keep the OS partitions and DATA partitions separate because I can run weekly image backups of the OS partition and store them temporarily in the data partition, and then move them offline to external storage.  That gives me a way to restore the OS in literally 10 minutes, should it fail.

If you merge the two large spaces into a single partition, you can't do that.

Re: My windows shows me a notification again and again saying, "Your windows license will expir

Hello Mr. WAWood, my heartiest thank for your answer. As you provide me the link I checked and it showed me the information as bellow:

WINDOWS-LICENSE-STATUS.PNG

But it doesn't solve my problem completely. I bought my laptop with a genuine version of Windows preinstalled. Now it should not be cracked or fake! If it is then I have to say HP and the retail shop has cheated me! Cause as far today I knew my windows was genuine. It has to be genuine cause I have paid for it. My windows have a license key too. So I think it is genuine and the notice about showing "your windows license will expire. . . . . . ..,"  is some kind of software problem. If there is another solution to this problem please let me know. Thanks a lot.

Good wishes from
