Hmm... If you aren't planning to save the personal information, you could try to do a factory reset. Not sure how to do this, but you can find out from searching on Google...

However, if you are planning to save the personal information, here's a link on how to reset a password: https://www.top-password.com/knowledge/reset-windows-10-password.html

(Don't post any serial numbers, as they are used to identify your specific device, which some people might try to use that to steal personal information, I think...)

PC does not load into the operating system (boot up issues) or does not turn on

I update my Windows 10 and then I realize that when my battery is fully charge and I unplug the charger it just shut down. I tried fix the battery problem with virtual help and the window fail to start. I tried virtual chat again and it now said restoration incomplete.

Hey there! ,

Have you tried checking with a different battery or adapter?

Check if the pin inside the DC (Charging) port is bent or broken.

Try plugging the adapter into a different wall outlet and check if it helps.

Also, Try checking with an alternate adapter.

Please try the steps recommended below.

To perform a power reset on a laptop with a removable battery, use the following steps:
Turn off the computer.
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
With the battery and power cord unplugged, press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors.
Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the laptop, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.
After Windows opens, reconnect each peripheral device that was disconnected, one device at a time, until all devices are reconnected.
Your laptop has been reset. After a power reset, it is a good idea to run Windows Update and HP Support Assistant to update all device drivers.

Also, refer this article to further troubleshoot no power issues with your laptop. Click Here

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps. It is a hardware (system board) issue with the laptop.

Re: HP Stream boot order

This thread is mistakenly marked as an Accepted Solution: I am experiencing the same obstacle to getting basic "boot from a flash memory at power-on" functionality with a Stream 14 purchased 3 weeks ago and none of the suggestions offered here help. Also, the original poster, Bignickmel never confirmed that anything offered here solved his problem.

I am seeing that: at power-on, after typing ESC until my fingers bleed, I can go to F9 and successfully boot either from the installed Windows 10 or from a Legacy USB flash memory (bootable Linux in this case); but, if I go into the BIOS and move the "USB Diskette on Key/USB Hard Disk" boot option to the very top of both the UEFI and Legacy boot list, the power-on default continues to be the internal SSDrive (Win 10.)  So, I'm right back where I started, having to manually intervene with F9 to boot from USB flash and I want to emphasize that the problem is not getting it to boot from flash - it's getting it to boot from flash at power-on.  It's all about boot order.

The "Item Specific Help" on the right half of the BIOS Boot Option screen gives no hint about what it takes to make the BIOS chose my Legacy USB bootable flash as the first boot device.  All it tells me is that with Legacy support enabled, the "UEFI boot order has a higher priority than the Legacy boot order."  Huh!!?  Are they trying to say that all the UEFI boot options take priority over the Legacy boot options?  Does that mean that only a UEFI USB flash can be made to boot at power-on?  Or, do you need to force the internal SSDrive to become a Legacy device so that a Legacy USB flash can be moved above it on the Legacy list and get chosen at power-on?  They don't provide enough information.  And, this isn't out in the weeds somewhere.  This is the year 2019 and people EXPECT flashboot functionality to come with a laptop that is in no way shape or form a Chromebook, as has been suggested by some at HP.  You shouldn't have to get into a wrestling match and arguments over warranty support related to external hardware to make that functionality happen.

The "SmartFriend" department at HP claims to know the secret trick to make this Stream 14 do what every other computer does without a fuss ...but there's a catch: they want you to pay them money before they'll be your "friend" and reveal the secret trick - their justification being that their BIOS doesn't need to have basic functionality since the bootable USB isn't an HP product and they're happy to stonewall you with this!  They also claim that the secret trick is freely available somewhere on the HP website (they won't say where) and this thread (#5764547) proports to answer exactly this question so it appears to be the only possibility.  Except of course, this answer doesn't work at least up to this point.

So, I don't know what's going on at HP these days, but perhaps this frank description of my recent experience may help you the understand the situation.  Any accurate insight or workable answer you might be able to offer will obviously be appreciated.

Hello

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

What do you mean "nothing happened" ? Really nothing happens when you press the power-on button or it starts but no operating system loads, black screen, etc... ?  Please, elaborate

Hi:

The Windows product key is in the BIOS.

If you can get into Windows, I have zipped up and attached below, a free utility that will show you the W8.1 product key in your notebook's BIOS.

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer if the restoration was incomplete would be to try to clean install W10 as follows...

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, if your PC is not working.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

Select Download tool now, and select Run.

If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.

On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.

Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

Select which media you want to use:

USB flash drive. Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

Then you can reinstall the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.

Hello

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Community.

Something is going on in the background. Your first choice of troubleshooting is the built-in Task Manager application which you can use to see what uses this CPU and RAM >> here are some instructions >>  https://www.howtogeek.com/169823/beginner-geek-what-every-windows-user-needs-to-know-about-using-the-windows-task-manager/

Although 3.52 GB are just around 22% of your entire RAM, this is also not "low amount of RAM used" for a clean new installation.

After clean Windows installation, there are lots of updates that need to be installed and Windows is doing this automatically which can cause issues. This is a known issue (known situation). Windows 10 may "take over" your computer until updates are installed

Hi,

Basically, it means that SMART hardware diagnostics detects that the drive has failed or is failing and you should replace the drive. First, if you can still boot into Windows, back up all your important data.

Let me know if you need any help with replacing the drive,

David

Re: whether you can enable secure boot without reinstalling Windows 10

Hello

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

With regards to your questions - Secure Boot is just a setting in the UEFI, it does not directly depend on the operating system. So, not directly related to Windows reinstallation. You can configure it in ON or OFF modes despite Windows and this setting will be there in the UEFI.

However, it can only be actively protecting the Windows operating system if Windows has been installed in UEFI mode.

And, if you change UEFI/BIOS boot settings, you may render your operating system unbootable

Windows can be installed in the newer UEFI mode and also in the legact CSM (BIOS) mode.

  • So, if Windows is already installed in UEFI mode, you can directly turn off or on Secure Boot and it will have an effect.
  • If Windows was installed in BIOS mode (CSM mode/legacy boot) , then Secure Boot options in the UEFI will have no effect at all even if ON. However, most BIOS nowadays cannot enable and manage Secure Boot options if Legacy (BIOS) mode is ON.

I hope my explanation is clear. Let me know if this answers your question.

And if you need further details, let me know your concerns and what exactly are you trying to achieve.

Re: How to downgrade BIOS?

Hello

Most new BIOS/UEFIs do not allow downgrading to earlier versions.

An only option which may or may not work is HP BIOS recovery >> all options are explained here in this articles >> https://support.hp.com/si-en/document/c02693833

Just for your future reference - general recommendation I provide to users/customers is NOT to upgrade BIOS/UEFI unless they experience any kind of specific BIOS/UEFI issue. Updating just for updaing and just for using the latest verson is not solution. Any kind of update (no matter for what and who relesed it) can fix 2 issues but may introduce 10 more issues. Additionally, upgrading the BIOS (for any vendor) poses more risks because BIOS recovery is not that easy as compared to typical software updates IF something goes wrong.

Same applies for Windows Updates, OS update, drivers updates, etc - upgrade/update IF you have issues which you know are fixed in the newer version or for some severe security issues. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible.
