Have this laptop in my possession to swap a failed HDD. Ordered and received the recovery media from HP. The recovery is repeatedly failing around the same place. I've done the following to try to remedy this with no luck:
Reset the BIOS
Set the correct date & time
Cleared TPM
Reset Security options
Ran full diagnostics
Next step for me is to boot up UBCD and run a memtest on the unit. Even after this, it keeps failing. It's failing on some Unknown ACPI device. Is it possible that HP may have boogered the recovery?
You're very welcome, Alex.
The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W10 drivers for the alps touchpad and wacom digitizer...
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp87501-88000/sp87687.exe
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp88501-89000/sp88927.exe
I wouldn't be able to help with the Intel sensor, pen, or touchpad.
The PC simply was not engineered to run anything but W10.
Hi:
Unfortunately, I can't help you with why the HP recovery media isn't working, but here is an alternative way to install W10...
To reinstall W10...Use the Media Creation Tool. Make the 64 bit installation media.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, since your PC is not working.
W10 will work with the product key in the BIOS, install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.
Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...
Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.
Then you can install the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-15-Notebook-PC-series/10862300/model/11926586
This was what I was afraid I'd end up having to do, was saving this as a last resort. Thanks though!

I believe so.
My suggestion is to use a freeware recover the Windows 8.1 key.
Then you can install Windows 10 and activate it using that key.
You're very welcome.
What I had to do with my Lenovo Ideapad 120S with the 32 GB hard drive is to do a clean installation of Windows 10.
Not what you want to hear, but yours is a very common problem with all owners of laptops with the 32 GB eMMC hard drives.
Follow CherylG's steps https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Windows-10-Updates/m-p/6875942/highlight/true#M544722

Please help. How do O reset my laptop HP touchescreen Administrator passwprd?
Windows login password or Power-on password???
REO
Windows Log In!!!!!!
I think it's Windows Log-In. I have two accounts set up, one is for me personally, the other is Administrator. I really thought I knew it. I have an autoimmune disease, and one of the outfalls is brain fog... Not so good with memory and apparently did not write it down. I also need to regress from Windows 10 to previous version. Help?
On the Support page HP includes drivers for all Chipsets in various models of this series. Only download the ones which apply to your laptop without regard to latest date.
SwSetup should contain all of the original software/driver installers. It will also include any SP files you download and install from your Support page. For instance you would see a folder titled SP88834 if you downloaded and installed latest HP Wireless Button Driver. I have a lot of those because I have updated all of my drivers from the Support page.
The original drivers would be a safety net in case internet isn't working after a Reset/Reinstall but Windows 10 should actually have most of the basic drivers to get hardware working.
Since you have tested out deleting partitions and running the Recovery drive i think it is safe to assume it would work on a new blank drive.
Don't retrieve the Windows key from BIOS...it is for the original Windows 8 which has been converted to a Windows 10 key during the upgrade. Your key is stored on Microsoft servers along with the hardware id of your laptop. During clean install when it asks for license key just choose "I don't have a key". It will install and activate once you connect to internet.
Yes, I would delete all partitions leaving only one large unallocated space. The installer will create any it needs. (10 is the old Windows 8 Recovery partition)
First of all I'm an Asian and my English ain't that good. So, if you found some gramatical error in this post then, I apologize.
So here's my problem, there are missing Drivers for my HP PRobook 4540s, I've already checked the driver page for this laptop. But I don't know which are the correct and compatible software for these components:
PCI Simple communications controller:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&SUBSYS_17F6103C&REV_04
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&SUBSYS_17F6103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&CC_078000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E3A&CC_0780
SM Bus controller:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&SUBSYS_17F6103C&REV_04
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&SUBSYS_17F6103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&CC_0C0500
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&CC_0C05
Unknown Device:
ACPI\HPQ6000
*HPQ6000
Unknown Device:
USB\VID_138A&PID_003D&REV_0104
USB\VID_138A&PID_003D
There are many softwares/drivers in HP Probook 4540s page. And to be honest I'm quite confuse which ones are the correct softwares for my laptop. Here are my PC specs:
Intel Core i3 3110m 2.4Ghz
Intel HD Graphics 4000
4GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM
250GB HDD
Windows 7 Ultimate
And also, I've installed Intel USB 3.0 eXtensive host controller, Intel ProSet Wireless and Jmicron SD Card reader, and they seem working fine with no problems whatsoever. As seen in the photo below.
But I still have a feeling that I've installed an incompatible softwares since the HP Probook driver page has a lot of softwares/drivers to choose from. And even if I install all of them in my laptop it would work - maybe. But what I'm looking for are the correct drivers for my laptop. Hope you guys help me.
Thanks in Advance.
Rei

That is unknown because the original author of an issue forgets to come back and tell us how it went.
This is something that happens fairly frequently.
