Re: Bios password
HP UEFI boot Win 10 no bootable image error, but F9 - manually pointed efi file boots
Win 10 New installation. BIOS setup to UEFI, installation from USB. Worked fine. GPT partition created , system installed.
The issue is with BOOT. Fails with error: No bootable image found, notebook will be shutdown.
But when you go through F9 manual boot option, and point EFI file on disk it boots perfectly.
Customized boot set up : \EFI\Boot\Bootx64.efi doesn't work, but when pointed manually by F9 option boots.
EFI files located correctly on EFI partition.
EFI Boot order - corrrect : Customized boot, or OS Boot manager first
Any advise ?

Re: HP ProBook 450g2 os issues
your suggestion was later what worked for me . however , i reinstalled windows 10 this time format the whole hard drive . and win 10 created new set of partitions ( 4 partitions ) and i did a clean install . reset my bios to default . and i used HP image manager to download new drivers and my system is back and running well . and well activated digitally (though i had the win key already with me )
What went wrong !
prior to now , i hard issue with my system so i did a re-installation of windows 10 . at the stage of partitioning it seems like i deleted some partitions unknowingly ,so the windows choose the recovery partition as a boot up drive . that why you were seeing it red . about 600M data was added to the recovery drive . after a lot of online research . i read an article that suggested i should delete all partitions and do a clean install . and that windows will automatically set up the partitions it needs . and there it goes . my system came back alive . but before then i hard my HP recovery backed up .
my only issue is that the backed up recovery drive might contain some other data that are not part of the recovery . ( that i will work on but if anyone have a clue this please share )
anyway i shared this so others can learn .
and thanks for your support .
Re: What version of Windows 10 on a laptop should I install after a wipe of the computer?
You're very welcome.
It depends on how old the program is that you want to install.
If it was from 10 years ago, your 1.6 Ghz processor is better than any 2.0 Ghz processor that was around at the time.
It is a recent software edition, the worst case scenario is the software will cause the PC to run sluggishly when you run the software.
Creating Recovery Media Windows 10
This laptop came with Windows 8, but was since upgraded to 10 back when MS was offering it as a free download. A recovery set of media was never created for it and I'm trying to do that now. When I run the program, it prompts me to insert an 18gm flash drive, which I do (32gb to be exact). It then says it's "evaluating hardware", then tells me there was a problem running the program and closes.
Is there a way around this? I need to do a recovery on the hard drive, but I don't want to revert back to Windows 8. If any other information is needed, I'll gladly suppy it. Thank you in advance.
Re: Creating Recovery Media Windows 10
Hi:
If you are running the HP recovery manager to create recovery media, the recovery media you are trying to create would be for W8.
Since you previously upgraded your PC to W10, you can clean install W10 for free at any time by using the Media Creation Tool at the link below.
You can create a USB installation media flash drive (you will need an 8 GB flash drive for this).
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation, check the 'Skip' box, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.
Then you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Re: HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p117na (ENERGY STAR)
Hi:
I don't know how you would be able to access those files and they probably wouldn't work since the 1TB HDD is so much larger than a 160 GB HDD.
See if this works...
Here is how you may be able to clean install W8.1 and use the W8.1 product key in your PC's BIOS to activate Windows.
Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media...You want W8.1 64 bit.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO
If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.
This is the generic key for W8.1 'standard.'
334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
Then manually change the generic product key to the W8.1 'standard' key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.
After you get W8.1 installed, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8.1 product key in your PC's BIOS.
I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or usb flash drive so it is bootable.
Then you can install the available drivers and software from your PC's support page.
Re: Administrator code
Hi,
The 24 character error code is a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. This is also consistent with the boot issues you describe.
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 54 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
You can just perform a clean installation of Windows 10 as detailed in the guide on the following link. Note: At the activation screen, select 'I don't have a Product key' - Windows will activate automatically once the installation has completed.

Re: drivers for HP 255 G6 1WY47EA
Thanks again, Drivers worked perfectly on Windows 7 on my configuration, but I still downloaded the free OS to Windows10. There is still a possibility for it, see:

Awesome! Thank you again!
The program is recent and the laptop was bought last week and the model was 2017. Hopefully it won't be too sluggish or I guess I am back to the drawing board in my search of a new one.
I'll keep you posted on how things are going.

So does the error mean that the 1TB drive is useless as it comes with a error
