Re: Base System Driver for nc8000

Hi:

There is no W7 driver for that device...you have to manually install the XP driver.

First, download and save the driver file, but DO NOT run it.

This SoftPaq contains the Flash Media Connectivity Driver for Memory CardBus Technology for the notebook models and operating systems listed below.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp25001-25500/sp25081.exe

Then download and install this free file utility.  The 1st link at the top of the page is for 32 bit.

https://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the driver file you saved.

Select 7-Zip from the list of items on the menu.

Have 7-Zip, extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp25081).

Once that is done, go to the device manager.

Click on the Base System Device needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC.

Here is a partial copy and paste of the contents of the driver setup information file that shows driver support for the hardware ID you posted.  Often times you can use XP drivers on W7 and they work fine.

Re: Notebook Powers Down Without Warning

Tried a battery rundown once again. This time it shutdown somewhere just below 20%, so that's good. But it just shut down. No hibernation or warning regarding low battery, so that's bad.

Just thought I'd try posting one more message to see if anyone might have any suggestions. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

BIOS:

Read what the update fixes or enhances.  If your notebook is running fine, I would not take the risk.

Alcor Micro Card Reader Driver -- yes, that needs to be installed.

If there is a corresponding W10 v1803 driver, then you don't need to install the 1709 versions.

HP orbit is a file sharing program between networked PC's and andriod/Apple devices such as cell phones or tablets.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05084237

I don't believe the applications are spyware, and if you set the programs not to run during startup, then they shouldn't slow down the PC.  If there is no setting to do so, run the MSConfig utility, startup tab, click on task manager and disable any unnecessary programs from running.

If you want Orbit, let me know because you need a file from HP and a file from a 3rd party website since HP has discontinued the app for android.  Fortunately, I found a 3rd party site that has the Orbit APK.

Awesome Paul! Thank you again!

---

The bios enhancement is: Provides support for Windows 10 v1803. (That is all I found, is that worthy enough to to take the risk?)

---

---

When it comes to the 1709 versions for example the chipset:

Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver - Kaby Lake (Windows 10 v1709)

I didn't notice any other versions of this one for example. My guess would be to install it, How am I doing so far?

---

Orbit:  I think this can come in handy for me. I will give it a shot. Thank you for offering. I have an iPhone, so that is good. Overall, is this product discontinued or are they still going to update it?

Thank you for the rest of the info. Helped!

Have you checked in BIOS to be sure the new hard drive is recognized? Enter BIOS setup by immediately tapping the F10 key after powering on-like tap, tap, tap. If the hard drive is recognized Exit and shut down, Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key. This should open a startup menu where you will have F9 to choose boot device. (you may also need to use Esc before tapping F10 to enter BIOS)

It's not a hardware issue. It's the Insyde H20 V.35 F1C Bios, it is integrated with UEFI.

Can you show me the way to unlock BIOS setup options to enable more choices for SATA management modes.

I know this chipset has no BIOS RAID controller support after checking with Intel. But at least i could operate in AHCI?

Software-wise i already have RST in operation. But I would like it if the firmware enters AHCI operation mode.

Many thanks Ruben_S !!
Wasn't able to try it until this morning and that worked a treat.

Many thanks so much for sharing that information.

I had been trying on and off for over three months to get it resolved.

Fantastic result.

Urgent need of notebook replacement or repair

Hello,
First time poster, apologies if this is in the wrong place. My notebook has rapidly deteriorated this past week. At first I was unable to reset the PC in response to low disk space, then I received at HxTsr.exe App error message. Since then, Windows 10 has failed to boot, first displaying the message 'Memory could not be read' 0x0007FF8E36 and now not even getting to the user sign-in page. Attempts to boot in safe mode or effect commands through command prompt have failed.

I have 5 months left on my warranty but am a student who is leaving for China next Friday and so urgently needs a working laptop with a VPN to stay in touch with home. If I can ever get through to the HP repair service I know it will be too late to receive the repair in time. What's more, having only had the laptop 7 months and already experiencing such major problems, I am sceptical as to whether it will survive the year in China.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi

Stream 14-ax005na

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-stream-14-ax000-laptop-pc/12499221/manuals

Would you have the capability to try another operating system that runs from a USB to check the system?

Download and make a 32 bit Lubuntu USB flash drive, using Rufus.

Get Lubuntu
Home / Get Lubuntu

Download lubuntu, a fast and lightweight Linux operating system. Lubuntu uses LXDE and a selection of light applications. It focuses on speed and energy-efficiency. Because of this, Lubuntu has very low hardware requirements.

Download Latest lubuntu Version 18.04

Suitable for most computers: lubuntu Desktop 64-bit

lubuntu Desktop 32-bit |

https://rufus.akeo.ie/

I realise that the 32 Gb space on a stream may be an obstacle.  But Lubuntu is a way to discriminate between HP Stream faults and Microsoft Windows errors.  EG: The  HxTsr.exe  wont be present to be a problem.

Also look as disk cleanup under Windows Administrative tools - Disk Cleanup.

 MS Answers gave this...

""

The file hxtsr.exe belongs to the Microsoft Office application that keeps the software working.

A clean computer is the key requirement for avoiding issues with HxTsr. We suggest that you run a scan on your computer, clean your hard drive, and uninstalling programs that you no longer need on your computer.

You may also run our System File Checker tool using this link. The steps provided are also applicable for Windows 10.

""

So LibreOffice is an alternative. Works under Windows and Lubuntu.

Also perhaps try Belarc Advisor to check and print out Licence's you have on the machine.

If in doubt please ask.

Hi

HP Recovery Media Creation.png

DO you mean this reference to F11?  It wipes your Hard Drive completely.

Turn off the computer.
Disconnect all connected devices and cables, Media Drives, USB drives, printers, & faxes.
Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware.
Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, or power cord.

Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key, about once every second,
until the Choose an option screen is displayed, and then continue.

On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot, and work your way through the screens.

I have followed all the steps to reset my laptop due to forgetting my password.

After I have followed all the steps, in the end it gets me the notification to clear up more disk space.

Abiously I can't do that when I can't access my computer.

I'm confused. I just bought it.

Help me please.

Oh I forgot to mention, that the disk space was basically untouched, other from the basic stuff that was already built in.

Update. A Factory Reset did it just fine ( I couldn't do a normal reset for some reason ). The laptop is fully operational, though I did get a BSOD once ( CRITICAL PROCESS DIED ) but it didn't happen again. Thanks for the help though.
