SMART Hard Drive Error (Imminent Failure)
When I turn on my notebook it says that the SMART Hard Drive had detected an imminent failure and when I run the diagnostics test it fails. However, when I click enter to continue it loads the information but I can't use any programs (i.e. Google Chrome, Microsoft Office) without my computer freezing and shutting down on its own. Anything I can do to fix it? I use the laptop heavily for school and this has been a big inconvenience. Also, the notebook is roughly 1.5 years old.
How to solve the problem of restoring windows to the factory settings?
Hello.I have such a problem. When restoring the operating system Windows 10x64, using the recovery system HP Recovery Manager, there is a recovery error in Windows. After that, it is possible to save the error to USB storage. This was done.
How to solve the problem of restoring windows to the factory settings?

Re: SMART Hard Drive Error (Imminent Failure)
Hello peytongallant,
Please back up important files immediately.
In order to continue using the laptop, you must buy a new hard drive to replace the existing. The hard drive may work but it's about to fail. Software changes will do nothing.
Any brand hard drive (WD, Seagate, Toshiba, etc.) but I would highly recommend an SSD such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E250B-AM/dp/B00OAJ412U
Steps to replacement are located on pages 40-41 of your computer's Maintenance and Service Guide. You need to pry open the keyboard/top cover.
If your computer has reached the stage where you cannot backup your files, you can purchase a USB to SATA adapter to search for files later: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB3S2SAT3CB-Drive-Adapter-Cable/dp/B00HJZJI84
Hope this helps,
Eddy

Re: 2018-04 Actualización acumulativa para Windows 10 Version 1709 para sistemas basados en x64 (...
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!
I understand you are having issues performing Windows update on your HP PC. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Could you provide me with the exact model of the PC? Use this link to find it: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
Have you recently made any changes on the PC before the issue started?
Are you getting this update or error from the HP Support Assistant?
Have you tried to update the Bios on your PC?
Have you tried to run Windows update troubleshooter?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.
I would suggest you start off by performing a Bios update on the PC from our HP Support website, using this link.
If you have problems installing the Windows updates, go to the Microsoft website and use the Windows Update troubleshooter.
Then, restart the computer and run Windows Update again.
Windows 10 update troubleshooter (in English)
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.
Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.
Let me know if those steps worked for you,
If they did, that's awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck
Re: SYSTEM BCD DOESNT EXISTS
These problems are generally due to one of two basic problems:
1) Failed hard drive
2) Corrupted/missing boot loader files
As to the first, please follow the directions in this link for testing your hard drive http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024
If that confirms your drive has failed, then you need to replace it. Please report back if that is the case.
As to the second, you will need access to a working PC for this step in order to create the media needed to repair your PC boot loader.
Once you have that, please download and create Win10 install media from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10
Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit). While you CAN change these settings, do NOT. If you do, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!
Boot from the media you created, and follow the directions in this link: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanced-startup-options-boot-windows-10-a.html
You will need to go to the Advanced Options screen and click on Startup Repair. You will probably have to run Startup Repair three times for it to fix all the boot loader problems.
When done, your PC should boot OK. If it does not, there is a more serious problem.
Downgrade from Windows 10 to 8
I purchased a HP Pavilion 15-cc563st notebook in December and I have had my fill dealing with Windows 10, especially the auto-update feature. I would like to downgrade Windows 10 to Windows 8.1. Does anyone know if this model is compatible with Windows 8? Any known issues? Has anyone else tried this successfully?
The computer came with these specs:
Laptop Computer (7th Gen Intel® Core™ i7, 1TB SATA HD, 12GB DDR4, Win 10, Intel HD Graphics 620)
I've already reverted back to Windows 8 on my other computers. This is the last hold out.
Thanks for any help!
Re: Downgrade from Windows 10 to 8
Hi:
Intel only developed W10 graphics drivers for the Intel HD graphics on the platforms with the 7th gen core processors and Kaby Lake chipsets.
So, if you downgrade your notebook to W8.1, the graphics won't work.
If you are good at modifying drivers, and you can figure out what to put for W8.1 instead of iSKLD_w7, in the W7 graphics driver mod at the link below, then you might be able to use this mod to get a W10 Intel graphics driver to work on W8.1.
See Bruce BTS' post at the link below for the mod.
Re: Downgrade from Windows 10 to 8
Thanks for much for the helpful information Paul. Wow, how disappointing. In fact, had I known this, I would have shopped for an older model that was still new. Unfortuately, I don't have any experience modifying drivers, so trying to experiment with it myself is not really feasible.
I think disatisfaction with Windows 10 is widespread. PC Makers including HP need to remedy this situation and continue to offer models that can use Windows 7/8.
Re: Downgrade from Windows 10 to 8
You're very welcome.
The PC manufacturers would have to gang up on Microsoft, who is the one driving what hardware will be supported for operating systems other than W10.
The hardware manufacturers such as Intel and AMD who make the processors, chipsets and graphics for almost every notebook made out there today, only develop W10 drivers for the platforms that Microsoft dictates only W10 will be supported on.
You are correct that the only way you can install W7 or W8.1 on a PC with an Intel platform, would have been to buy one with a 6th gen core processor and Skylake chipset.
Re: Windows Spotlight is not rotating background pictures
No, that did not fix the problem. I have been reading other posts and watching videos and have tried the following:
1) Emptied %USERPROFILE%/AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets.
2) Deleted settings.dat and roaming.lock in the %USERPROFILE%/AppData\Local\Packages
\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\Settings folder.
3) Ran Get-AppxPackage -allusers *ContentDeliveryManager* | foreach {Add-AppxPackage "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode -register } in Powershell (as Administrator)
4) Ran the System Maintenance troubleshooter
The lock screen is still showing the same picture all the time and doesn't have the like/dislike option displayed.
Any other ideas? Is it possible that I disabled something in Bing when I was setting up the computer and selecting the default search engine (grasping at straws)?
Re: The time on your clock keeps changing to the wrong time.
Thanks. I will try it tonight. This problem has been bothering me for a few days.
Re: Windows Spotlight is not rotating background pictures
Well, I doubt it if it was already working for a while. I assume you left Bing the default search engine in Edge, right? Bing is used to bring up the Spotlight images.
As for clearing the appdata files, did you do it in a certain order with Spotlight not selected in Personalization?
It might make a difference.
If you havent already, give this a look through and try it again...

If that does not work, you will want to also ask on the Microsoft Forums.
Its a Windows issue that I dont know about.
Re: Windows Spotlight is not rotating background pictures
As far as I know, Spotlight has never worked on this laptop. Bing is set as the default search engine in Edge, but Edge is not my default browser. Lock screen was set to Picture when I cleared the folders.
Re: How to solve the problem of restoring windows to the factory settings?
Have you created HP recovery USB using HP recovery manager software just after initial setup of this notebook?
If so, use this to boot from and perform factory reset.
Keep notebook plugged in to AC power. Remove all peripheral devices except HP recovery media. Close all other programs other than Recovery.
Nevertheless, if you desire, you can clean install Windows 10 in this notebook by creating UEFI bootable Windows 10 installation USB using Microsoft Windows media creation tool.
Windows will be automatically activated after installation while connected to internet
You can try the below steps to clean install Windows 10 latest build,
Follow option 1 here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-create-bootable-usb-flash-drive-install-windows-10-a.html
This will allow you create bootable Windows 10 (build 1709) USB using Microsoft windows media creation tool from ANOTHER WORKING COMPUTER.
Next disable secure boot from BIOS, plug in the installation USB, change boot order to USB, then proceed with clean installation of Windows 10 1709 build.
Disable secure boot:

Change boot order to USB: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01443326
Clean install:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-clean-install-windows-10-a.html
Windows 10 activation licence key is embedded in the BIOS chip on motherboard from factory. The key automatically activates Windows 10 upon installation while connected to internet, provided you're installing same edition i.e., Windows 10 Home.
You can download additional drivers from your HP support page:

Re: Windows Spotlight is not rotating background pictures

You have something else happening.
Sorry I cant help.
If you do find the issue, would you mind coming back and telling us about it?
Thanks.
