Re: Laptop crashing daily

Mine says:

"Warranty Active: Covered under Manufacturer warranty , 5  months remaining  - See details

Get help from a support agent using one of these methods:

This product is no longer serviced by HP. You may search for possible solutions on this support website."

Dunno where they got 5 months from as I only bought it 2 months ago. Maybe that's when Debenhams picked it up from them, but that shouldn't be my problem.

But there doesn't seem to be ANY way to open a chat session or arrange a pick-up. I can't even find a phone number anywhere on there website.

That is weird. I will ask HP internally.

It may take some time to get an answer. In the interim you can use VirtualBox if you just have to have a virtual OS right now.

Thanks a lot mate!

I actually have VirtualBox installed, but I wanted to go for Hyper-V to install Docker (wich will exclude VirtualBox though).

Looking forward to hear from you soon! Smiley Happy

By the way, I also checked the BIOS settings but I see no Hyper-V there.

Hi

So you have had it 2 months ish.

The BORN ON date should match your receipt / plastic payment date.

Mine was about 5 months slow, showed July 2015.

So Debenhams have a responsibility, possibly your Credit Card issuer and maybe HP.

YOU MUST REGISTER THE PRODUCT WITH HP.

After many hours of trying different suggestions, this is the only solution that actually worked for me so thanks for posting. However it does mean reinstalling msoffice, email, apps etc. as well as keeping a copy of important files so not ideal.

I was beginning to wonder if the laptop I bought for my son was actually fit for purpose.

Anyway all good now and those annoying 'update Windows' pop-ups have finally stopped!

Well, worked for a month, now won't boot up and can't access BIOS. I'm figuring it's the motherboard - again. Paid to have that replaced 4 years ago.

Have you tried deleting the roaming.lock and settigns.dat files?

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to..

C:\Users\Photoray\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_(characters)\Settings

In my case, replace (characters) with cw5n1h2txyewy.

Delete the two files...

roaming.lock and settigns.dat

Go back and reset Windows Spotlight...

Does that make any difference?

HP would not be stocking recovery media for older notebooks (>5years) in their inventory.

You can try purchasing HP recovery discs from reputed third party online sellers:
Like these, $27:
http://computersurgeons.com/p-21401-windows-7-64b-recovery-kit-658058-002-for-hp-pavilion-notebook-pc-model-number-g7-1167dx.aspx

https://www.restoredisks.com/hewlett-packard-pavilion-g7-1167dx-windows-7-home-premium-64-bit-restore-disks

There are also alternate download paths for Windows 7 operating system ISO files so that you can clean install it, if you can read clearly all the 25 characters of Windows activation key printed on the COA sticker.

Yes that is for Windows Insiders.

Moreover that article was written 3 years back when it was indeed free for Windows 7/8/8.1 users.

I recently rebuilt my computer  with the recovery setting to save my files. recovery worked just fine.

when i reboot the computer the first log is a built in Administrator account. not the account i restarted the computer with.  after logging in and locking or logging out of my account the administrator account disapears, and only my account is shown.

the administrator account does not show up when i go to account settings in control panel.  i have tried my password on the account and it does not work.

my system is windows 10 64bit home. so i do not have access to the profiles in computer manager.

Any suggestions.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.

I understand that the computer shuts down whenever it goes to the sleep mode. Need not worry

Have you tried changing any setting on your PC?

Are you facing this issue after an update?

However, let's try the below steps.

Changing power button and lid settings

You can save power by specifying what the computer does when you close the lid or when you press the power button.

  • Depending on the setting you specify, pressing the power button causes the computer to do one of the following: Do nothing, Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut down.

  • Depending on the setting you specify, closing the lid causes the computer to do one of the following: Do nothing, Sleep, Hibernate, or Shut down.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.

    Figure : Opening Control Panel

  2. In Control Panel, search for Power, and then click Choose a power plan in the Search results.

  3. In the left pane, click Choose what the power buttons do or Choose what closing the lid does.

  4. To change settings for the power button, the sleep button, or the lid when it is closed, click the settings and select the desired settings for use when using the battery or when the computer is plugged in. Then click Save changes.

What is the exact product number, full model name of the notebook?

Follow this document to troubleshoot first: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01443463

That error (3F0) usually means hard drive is failing or has failed.

Tap away f2 key as soon as you power on notebook, enter System Diagnostics UEFI, and thereafter perform extensive hard drive and memory tests.

Let it complete. Post back with results.
