Hi, thank you for your prompt response! I am impressed.

Yes, I have a clear COA sticker:

Windows7 Pro OA
HP (bar code) 584048-001

with a genuine product key of course.

I don't want to try the trial version of Windows 10. I have other PCs with Windows 10 for my main work.

Thank you for your help.

Hi, the URLs are outdated. They are not available for many years.

Heidoc is the new options but it is not available for Windows 7 since December 2017 because Microsoft blocked it. Basically Windows 7 is hard to download for OEM versions.

You are very welcome ! My pleasure.

Please, be patient. I will search within fellows if I/they can provide you with some URL to download Windows 7.

Will post again when I have some news.

If or When the ISO link is found/provided,

use an empty/blank USB pen drive (min 4 GB capacity(

use Rufus >> https://rufus.akeo.ie/

to download/write the ISO to the USB drive

Boot from this USB drive (F9)

Both ZBooks keeps on for ever trying to update from Windows 10 version 1703 to version 1709. A usual exception  reported is 0x1900107. Since two similar units behave similarly I beleive they are not compatible for version 1709. I wonder if I can expect an upgrading or do have to go back to Windows 7?

HP Laptop with non-removable battery

Is there a combination of keys or other measures that will allow me to turn the power supply of my laptop off for a short time?  I could do this when the battery could be removed.

Not without removing the battery. In fact on many laptops with internal batteries the "main" battery doubles as the RTC or CMOS battery so removing it causes a reset of BIOS settings.

What are you trying to do?

Bright when and how bright and darkens when? That sounds unusual to me.

In the last few days, this laptop started having poor performance, with Task manager showing Diagnostic Policy Service taking up to 30% or more of CPU.

I did reset of BIOS, and downloaded all current windows upgrades – no fix.

Dis upgrade of BIOS from F.46 to F.50, no improvement.

I created a new user, same problem.

There is an online thread on this in your help forums, does not seem to show any fix.

I ran all of your diagnostics in your HP Support Assistant, all passed – no fix.

Your Support Assistant only shows a chat option, which just spins forever, or live chat, which is generally not effective for this type of problem. The Chat support is so poor - first it took several minutes for him to echo back the system name I had sent, and then his only "solution" was a complete system reset to factory.

Really makes me regret choosing HP!

Why do I have to do a BIOS upgrade for my Windows 10 HP Pavilion--about 18 months old?

As an IT professional I have had many Notebooks, Laptops, iPads, etc. But I have never had one like this

HP Pavilion. It seems to be trying to install some kind of system upgrade. I do not understand. Why

is it wanting to do a BIOS upgrade. This system (the reason I purchased it) came with Windows 10 for

64bit computing. It worked pretty good although the Windows 10 took me some time to rework my

brain for functionality. I still prefer the Windows 7 on my 10 year old Dell Laptop.

So tell me---why do I have to do a BIOS upgrade and since the HP support is no where about--where

is the BIOS upgrade--i.e. on a memory stick, on a DVD/CD, or download.

I will tell you this, we will never purchase a HP Notebook again since I cannot imagine the grief I would

get telling my wife that I will have to do a BIOS upgrade in just 12 to 18 months (slightly outside the

warranty period...LOL!)

Thanks   for posting this URL.

Hi

provided you a URL to download the ISO images - they are not from the official website of MS, but this is how it is, Microsoft are doing their best to hide Windows 7.

Open the URL,  choose the one with name X17-24281

en_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_x64_dvd_621750.iso

Download it and save it on your Desktop, for example. You will need a torrent download software (for example Qbittorrent) to complete the download.

With regards to your question about Rufus:

Open it and use these settings:

Select proper USB device

Partition scheme: MBR(scheme for BIOS or UEFI computers)
File system : FAT 32

Cluster: 4096

Do not check the device for bad sectors

Quick format

Create a bootable image using:  ISO  (and select the ISO)

Standard Windows installation

Let me know how it goes.

Hi,

I checked the log file and there are lots of services and app which might be causing this.

Roxio
Real Player

Office

etc.

You have 2 options in fixing this:

-1- or -2-

1) Perform clean installation of Windows 10 and give the PC fresh clean start. By doing this you will remove everything from the PC, will reinstall Windows, and will later reinstall your apps and restore your files. If you choose doing so, here are instructions >> https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Impossible-to-update-operating-system/m-p/6460340#M514183

2) Attempt troubleshooting here to find the "guilty" app by testing

2.1)  You should first perform malware/virus check to eliminate potential malware which might be causing this

....Run the free ESET Online Scanner >> http://download.eset.com/special/eos/esetonlinescanner_enu.exe

Scan your PC for viruses, threats and unwanted/unsafe applications - remove if anything found.

.... Run AdwCleaner >>https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

.... Run Kaspersky TDSS Killer >> http://media.kaspersky.com/utilities/VirusUtilities/EN/tdsskiller.exe

2.2) Use the built-in tool msconfig

Click on Start, type  msconfig

and once you find it, open the tool

Here is more info about msconfig >> https://www.computerhope.com/jargon/m/msconfig.htm

Click the Services tab.

Select Hide Microsoft services,

and then remove the selections next to each item in the list. Make sure you remove things from any non-Microsoft vendor including HP, Real Player, Roxio, etc. - stuff which you believe may not be needed. For the testing purposes you can uncheck many.

Note that this unchecking prevents the selected service from automatic start, it does not remove or uninstall it

Click Apply/OK, exit msconfig

*RESTART the computer*  (restart, do not shutdown and then back start up)

After restart, please, test if the situation improved.

If it improved, no further troubleshooting will be required.

If not, please open MSCONFIG, restart back some startups, DISABLE different ones

and by doing this, test what causes the problems

Let me know how it goes, provide update

Hi,

Open up an elevated Command Prompt by typing "CMD" in Start, right-clicking on the first option, and selecting "Run as administrator." Enter "sfc /scannow." After this, enter "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth".

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.
