I've bought notebook in "Ulmart" shop, Moscow, Russia.

There is a sticker "Windows 8 Pro" on the back side of the device without any product key. Also, Win 8 recovery DVDs are included. But, Windows 7 Pro is installed on HDD by manufacturer (by HP, I mean).

I want to buy additional SSD device and install Windows 7 Pro (and all programs) on SSD (on system partition) and want to use standard HDD for data only.

Also, I have Windows 7 Pro disribution, but I don't know Product key.

to previous post:

P.S. Windows 7 is installed by manufacturer, definitely, because "Windows 7 Pro installed" is marked in technical description on HP site.

And this is the ONLY reason, why I've bought this device.

Have you made recovery media?  That should have been done shortly after you received the notebook.

Click on start -->All programs-->HP -->Recovery media creation.  If Windows 7 was the originally installed OS, then the recovery media should be useable to reinstall Windows 7.  You can still create the recovery media if you can still boot into Windows 7 and have not already made a copy. I highly recommeend making usb recovery media. Normally a usb flash drive that is 8GB or larger is what is needed. It varies. On my current HP Spectre 13 TouchSmart Ultrabook it took a 16GB flashdrive, but on my previoous unit I had to use a 32GB flashdrive.

All of the drivers for Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) for your notebook are here

And I can reinstall Win 7 even on different drive? (SSD instead of HDD)

Yes.

You will need to put the drive with Windows 7 in the same position as the original one.  If you don't do that, the OS won't boot up into Windows. Put the original drive in the second position. Unless your notebook was delivered with two hard disks you will need to purchase the hardware kit that has the SATA connector and hard disk caddy from HP or an online vendor.

I'm trying to install a linux on my 8470p. After successful install I get a 3F0 error. I'm guessing the Boot Sector is protected. Can't find how to disable this in the BIOS. Is there any?

Kind regards,

Uli

Elitebook 850 G1 with Windows 8.1: problems with UEFI boot and LAN/WLAN switching

$

Hallo.

The Elitebook 850 G1 is a great machine, but I've got a couple of problems:

- If I setup UEFI native boot, and configure the laptop to boot that way, it boots correctly, but I can't shut down or hibernate it anymore, but instead it restarts. The same happens with hybrid UEFI/legacy boot.

- No way to get the fantastic LAN/WLAN switching feature working after having it activated in BIOS, as instead with my previous Elitebook 8540w. Do I need additional software? It seems there's nothing related available, for example there's no HP Wireless Assistant for the 850 G1.

The BIOS is updated, version 01.08.

Has someone else faced the same problems?

Any hint/solution?

Thanks in advance

Alex
