Sounds like hardware failure.

Since you are under warranty you should contact HP for repair.

Did you laptop come originally with Windows 8.1 ?

If so, download it at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

Hi,

You can create your own W7 installation media as follows...

Click on the Windows ISO Downloader.exe link to download the tool to create the W7 ISO file download.

Select the Windows COEM ISO file download for the version of W7 the product key is good for.

I have zipped up and attached the Microsoft utility below, that will allow you to either put the file on a USB flash drive, or you can use a different free utility such as Rufus.

Ok, so I bought a laptop from a friend that's just barley a yr old... I then purchced Laplink PC mover to transfer stuff off old laptop to the new one (because I have programs for graphic designing on old on 8gb)...Laplink analyzed and come back and said I did't have enough space on the new laptop (which says I have 16gb) So what on earth am I doing wrong, I upgraded knowing the 16gb would alow me to run smother with double the space??

Thanks for keeping me posted. Do you have the HP Recovery Media with you?

If you do not have the Recovery Media, I suggest you contact our phone support and order one

Once you have the Recovery Media, you can reload the Windows.

Please follow the instructions I sent in the private message

Please check your private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile.

Next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope

Thank you

Thanks for keeping me posted

I suggest you run a System Test to confirm the Hardware Functionality

- Shut down the Notebook completely
- Turn it back on, then tap the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup menu screen is displayed.
- Press F2 to select System Diagnostics.
- Click System Tests

If all the Test pass, you can try a System Restore to an earlier time before the issue started

- Shut down the computer completely.
- Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key, about once every second, until you see the Windows loading screen.
- If a language selection screen opens, select the language you want to use to continue.
- On the Choose your keyboard layout screen, select the keyboard layout that matches your keyboard type.
- On the Choose an option screen, click Troubleshoot.
- On the Troubleshoot screen, click Advanced Options.
- On the Advanced options screen, click System Restore.
- Click Windows 10 as the target operating system.
- The System Restore window opens. Click Next.
- Click the restore point that you want to use, and then click Next.
- The Confirm Restore Point window opens.
-Click Finish to restore your computer to a previous point.
- Do not interrupt System Restore when it starts. Doing so can corrupt your hard drive and create more problems. Click Yes in the warning that appears.
- System Restore returns the computer configuration to a previous point in time and restarts.

Let me know how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend 😊

Hello and thanks for the quick reply.

When I enter 3 times it "says"  password check failed.

Fatal error....... System halted.
