First of all, sorry for my bad english. I want to make a dual boot on my laptop (Hp Pavilion 15 n001-sq). My laptop don't have an option to change the sata to ahci for installing win xp. I tried to slipstream some drivers in a xp sp3 cd but still not working. I can't find the proper driver for my motherboard for slipstreaming. Any ideas?

As I explained in my first post, the Action Keys setting in the BIOS is set as Enabled, and I have tried toggling it off and on without any improvement. The problem seems to be that the Hot Keys driver isn't included in the start up list, but I can't find where I can download it.

I am sorry you are so unhappy.

Whatever happened to your computer is not the same issue described and resolved in this thread.  A stuck BIOS update is not the same thing as a failed board, regardless of how the damage occurs.

Spilling bile onto this thread is a means of getting your message out to the people who will read this solution.  Unfortunately, acts of this type usually accomplish little to alleviate personal pain.  It does give you the opportunity to tell us how you feel.

I understand you are disappointed - your entire computer cost little more than the cost of the motherboard.  If the main component, the only expensive component, fails and makes a device unusable, it is frustrating.

Replace the device with one of your choosing - regardless of brand.  If you know that you cannot afford - or do not wish to pay for - possible repairs, consider the cost of replacement (should the device fail) against the cost of an extended warranty package.

Data recovery is not so difficult as long as you have backups of your personal data.  For example, you may have your personal data backed up to a remote File Server (at home) using File History (for example).  You might have backed up your personal data to OneDrive (Microsoft) or another of the "Cloud" backup services.   Backups are, of course, essential to a smooth recovery process.

The actual Windows 10 Operating System is easily replaced.  Purchased software (for example Office) need only be reinstalled from Microsoft (key required, of course).  Printer(s) are easily reinstalled, too, from their own Website Support pages.

Were there any recent updates or hardware changes?

Is the Notebook booting up?

Please run a system test to confirm the Hardware Functionality and let me know how it goes

- Shut down the Notebook completely
- Turn it back on, then tap the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup menu screen is displayed.
- Press F2 to select System Diagnostics.
- Click System Tests

I was just trying to do a driver update because my headphones stopped working and it is asking for an admin password but I have totally forgotten what it was. I just need to know how I can either retrieve it or reset it.

Windows 7 on Omen 17"

I have a problem with windows 10, just like most if not all other high-end users and gamers.
Every month or so I need to reinstall drivers, mainly chipset and graphics.
Windows 10 is known for it's forcefully pushing their own drivers on the system, which do not work properly for high-end use.

Therefore I want to get rid of that disease and go back to Windows 7, so the laptop can function properly.

Any idea how I can get my way around the flawed system that disallows the installing lower than Windows 10?

My notebook has been stuck in automatic repair. I keep getting an error message saying it can't repair itself. So I purchaded the recovery media (USB). After going through the process for a few hours, we received an error message and a message saying the recovery attempt has failed. What do I do now? I already paid $40 for the recovery media. Specific error messages attached. Thanks for your helpfail 1.jpgFail 2.jpg

Hi:

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with why the recovery media you purchased doesn't work, but you can try to clean install W10 as follows...

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, if your PC is not working.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

  1. Select Download tool now, and select Run.
  2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
  3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
  4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

  5. Select which media you want to use:
  6. USB flash drive.  Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

Then you can reinstall the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.

If the above method works to reinstall W10, I suggest that you contact HP and see if you can get a refund for the non-working recovery media you paid for.

Hi:

There are two possible obstructions in your way...

1. Intel only developed W10 graphics drivers for platforms with the Kaby Lake chipsets.

There is a possible modded W10 driver that may work though.

See this discussion...Bruce BTS's post.

2. Some model wifi cards won't work on W7 even though there are drivers for the cards.

What model wifi adapter does your notebook come with?

That's a big mistake...

Windows 10's functioning is well below good.

Drivers would be no problem for me to get, as parts are not HP, but other brands. That i will be unable to find them on HP website is their problem.

It is a gaming laptop afterall, not to be windows 10 degraded.

If intel's gen 7+ disallows so, that would be different. However, i never heard of such.

You do not seem to realise the laptop uses nVidia and not Intel graphics. It is to be installed via GeForce Experience, or function lowly.

The wifi is an intel ac 7265, which is according to intel supported on windows 7, 8, 10 and linux.

If you select your language instead of "HP Help and Support", the diagnostic help will be displayed.

HP Personal Computer Startup & No-Boot – TechCenter Startup

Example, select English:

HP PCs - Resolving Diagnostic Errors that Appear During Startup

Example, select (in the Diagnostic Errors document):

For notebooks:

System Fan (90b, 90f) Error Message on Startup

For Desktops:

90D System Temperature Message During POST

Solultion depends on the machine (computer), the Operating System, and the situation.

The Diagnostics Error document provides the examples (above) and other links to help you sort and resolve the problem.

You don't seem to realize that your notebook has the Intel 630/nvidia switchable graphics adapters, not just Nvidia.

You need to get both graphics adapters to work.

The Intel graphics mod I posted is the only one I know of how to get the Intel part of the switchable graphics to work.

Yes, the Intel 7265ac will work on W7 with no issues.

Some models come with the Intel 3168 ac 1 x 1 wifi adapter which will not work on W7.

Hi:

You can't install XP on a platform with the 4th gen core processors...as you found out, there is no XP SATA AHCI controller driver.

The last Intel platform that had support for XP was for platforms with the 3rd generation core processors.
