You just have to buy a USB-Stick (8 GB or more) and then download the "Media Creation Tool" from Microsoft.
Prepare the Stick (On YouTube you find many videos how to do that)

Then you you boot from the stick.

Upgrading the M.2 card

So I'm looking at upgrading my original 128gb m.2 to a 1tb m.2.

Now I know how to do install the new hardware myself.

But I would to know if I can do a full system restore using the system restore partition on the E drive?

Or will I need to install windows 10 from a usb stick and install the drivers manually?

Thanks.

Hi:

See if your specific model notebook is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool, which you can use to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10) | HP® Customer Support

If your notebook is not supported by the cloud recovery tool, or for some reason it doesn't work, you will have to clean install W10 and install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Hi:

Since your notebook has an Intel 11th gen core processor, you need to install a specific storage controller driver that W10 does not contain.

See the info at the link below.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-15-f2000-laptop-pc-series/35900344/model/35900346/document/c...

Here is the link to the driver you need...

This package contains the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology is designed to provide functionality for the Intel Storage Controllers. The driver improves Serial ATA (SATA) disk performance with Native Command Queuing.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp111501-112000/sp111776.exe

There is one thing wrong in that document, and that is where HP tells you to right click on the Intel driver file and select Extract to

When I ran through the steps, I don't get an Extract to option when I right click on the file.

So, if you have the same issue, download and install the free 7-zip file utility from the link below.

The 1st file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

7-Zip (7-zip.org)

Then you can right click on the exe file, select 7-Zip from the menu, and select Extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp111776), and copy that folder to your USB flash drive, and continue with the instructions.

Luckily, I had already upgraded my WiFi card to the intel, so I was ready.

Updating to Win10 had a couple of hiccups, but once the process was complete EVERYTHING worked!  Yes, I had to update the Beats/IDT driver, but once I did that feature worked perfectly.  All apps survived, although I had to go through some update procedures for a couple that were ugly (i.e., some regedit work).  But AFAIK, the transformation was a complete success.

Thanks for the pointers to the files!

You're very welcome.

Since everything works on W10, you can probably upgrade to W11...

If you want to install W11 on your PC as is, you can bypass the W11 hardware requirements using two easy methods.  The first one is the easiest.

I would make a system image of your current W10 installation prior to updating to W11, so you can easily reinstall W10 in the future.  I used the free Macrium Reflect software to do that, under the Backup at Home section.

Along with the system image, make sure you create the bootable DVD or USB rescue drive you boot from to access the system image stored on your portable hard drive.

Macrium Software | Reflect Free Edition

Read and follow the instructions at the link below.

Windows 11 Upgrade Hack on Any Hardware | Dong Knows Tech

No registry changes needed.  No need to create installation media.  Just download the W11 ISO file, and the guy's zip file.

I used the first procedure to do an in-place upgrade an old HP Elitebook 6930p notebook made in 2010 to W11, and I was able to keep my old Office 2010 Starter program that came with the notebook when it had W7 on it, along with all of my other programs, files and settings.

The notebook met none of the enhanced W11 hardware requirements.

That is the 11th unsupported W11 PC I have upgraded to W11, and not one of them have had any issues whatsoever.

They have all gotten all the Windows 11 updates released thus far.

I check those against a PC I have that is fully supported to run W11.

There is also this way you can upgrade to W11, bypassing the hardware checks...

Return Laptop to "as bought" condition

I bought the laptop indicated, refurbished off of Amazon for my father. Went through and did his Microsoft registration, etc.

First off, laptop is fine. More a setup question

Now, father doesn't want, but he wants to give laptop to one of his grandchildren. My father used very minimally but things like his Microsoft account etc still linked to laptop.

How do I return the laptop to fresh out of the box, ready to setup, configuration.

A wrinkle may be that when I bought laptop it was running Windows 10. I didn't turn off a couple of days ago and it has updated the OS to Windows 11.

Hi:

I just checked to see if that model notebook is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool and it is.

You can use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with the notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility...

Some folks have indicated on the newer models that HP has revised the installation files to install W110 and not W10.

I don't know if that will happen to that model or not.

When I try to sign on to my laptop, sometimes I can only type in part of the password, then the cursor stops.  Sometimes if I click on the eye, it'll let me put in my full password.  When I open a screen it scrolls continuously -- all the way down, all the way across the screen and back again.  I'm not using a mouse.  I can't stop it.  Is the laptop dying?
