HP Laptop 6730b Bios access??

$

I cant seem to get access to Bios update. In the bios area, it only says "bios factory reset but no Bios UPDATE?? I have another diff laptop with same screen and that HAS the bios update option. i have done bios flashes on other hp laptops before from bios and from windows and seems to work well.

I tried WIN B and Win V with power button but that didnt work and it just went to windows normally.

I was getting a bios corruption earlier error 501? and press enter and it went to windows normally. i just want to flash the bios to latest and get this repaired and up to date.

Is the Bios locked out "protected" or corrupted too badly? in the security section and config, all choices are " Change"  so i cant find where the bios is protected? Used esc, F10 ect on start  in and out but cant get/find a bios update entry with usb stick in port ready to go with bios rom file.

Also tried to do the bios update in windows and opened bios application and it just went straight to "finish" without doing any thing else and old bios is still showing in specs, so out of ideas

Thanks for any help on this one.

PFN LIST CORRUPT BSOD

Hi, I've had my Z book for a couple of months and have been constantly plagued by issues. It s a HP ZBook 15 with a Quad Core i7 4800MQ, 32GB ram, 480GB SSD and Nvidia Quatro K2100m 2GB GPU.

Since receiving it I have had persistent overheating and blue screen crash problems, I have reset it multiple times, updated all drivers from many sources, performed a memory scan, System file scans, a checkdisk scan and cleaned out any dust in it, but still receive a PFN LIST CORRUPT blue screen error, caused by 'ntoskrnl.exe' when watching videos online. I used to try and play games on it, but Battlefield 3 consistently caused it to overheat and blue screen even on lowest settings, so haven't tried since all my attempted fixes. Any ideas?

Error 0xc0000017 while booting from USB on freeDOS notebook

Hello,

I just got my new notebook HP 250 G7 which comes with freeDOS on it.

After trying to boot from USB Windows installation disk I get blue screen error number 0xc0000017

Unfortunately I am getting the blue screen immediately upon booting Windows installation from flash drive.

After running HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI, I got this results:

Processor Check: Passed

Memory Quick Check: Passed

Storage Check: No storage installed

Hard Drive Check: Smart Check: Passed

                                   Short DST: Passed

System Board Test: Passed

Furthermore, in BIOS Setup under Configuration -> UEFI HII Configuration -> Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology I'm getting this:

Intel(R) RST 17.8.0.4507 RAID Driver

No disks connected to system

Booting Hiren’s BootCD PE was successful and there I saw hard drive (SSD 512GB) so I don't know why I get no storage installed in diagnostic.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,

Al Goo

Hi,

I also have the 6730b running Windows 10 and updated the bios to v2.0  https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp57001-57500/sp57343.exe  just the other day. I downloaded the update that runs from windows from hp site. Save it to the desktop and run as administrator. Install was all automatic with no problem. I’m assuming you can boot to windows ok.
Can I ask if your touchpad works correctly as mine doesn’t. Left click, tap to click and advanced gestures don’t work.
If yours works ok, can you tell me the drivers you have for the synaptic mousepad?

Thanks and I hope you fix it ok.

Important files on laptop that was killed due to water spill on keyboard

I'm a stop-motion animator, and I have about 6-8 months of animation on a laptop.  It is super important.  I'm opening up the laptop to transfer the files and back them up, and I bump a glass of water onto the keyboard and it spills everywhere.  I immediately pour all the excess water off the laptop and dry it off.  I didn't quite know what to do.  I didn't shut the laptop off for a solid minute (very bad idea).  After 3-5 minutes had gone by I realized that I probably should unplug it and take the battery out.  I don't know the exact number of minutes before I had it all unplugged and air drying, but I would say around 8 (not to mention I shut it down and tried to restart it)  As I researched later I saw that I should have unplugged it, taken out the battery, and dried it off immediately.  Then not touched it for two-three days.  Sadly, that didn't happen.  So nothing can be changed from the past.  The laptop was really slow and barely running the main software I had on it anyway (Dragonframe) and I was planning on getting a new laptop soon.  I just need the files off of it.  They are 4K RAW Image Sequences.  Tons of them.  I really need to know how to get these off the laptop soon.  Do I have to take it in?  If so, how much would it cost?  I don't have much spare money as I'm only 15 so I can't spend hundreds of dollars getting the files off at a computer.

I don't know if you need this, but here are the laptop specs:

Windows 10 update 20H2

Anyone have a status on when the Windows 10 update 20H2 is coming to HP Pavilion 14-al092no? Im yet to recive the update through Windows Update.

The fact of the matter is that the 20H2 update is actually nearly nothing.  The build numbers of 20H1 and 20H2 are the same -- because all 20H2 does is turn on a few very minor features.

If you go to the Win10 Community website and read the post about the enablement package, KB4562830, download and install that from Microsoft Update Catalog, your PC will be updated to 20H2 in a couple of minutes.

<Sigh>  Every time I read one of these Factory-Reset-Failed posts I cringe and continue to wonder why everyone seems to think a factory reset is a miracle cure when, in many cases, it only serves to make things worse!

If the PC is really SLOW, a factory reset will do NOTHING to fix that, and will most likely fail -- leaving you with an unusable PC. If a factory rest starts out OK and then halts part way through, that is nearly always an indication of a failing drive -- which is a hardware issue that a factory reset will do nothing to fix.

To check for hard drive failing, if your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

If not, you have to follow these steps:
1) Press Esc key repeatedly, several times a second, while rebooting the laptop. Do NOT hold the key down, just press it over and over.
2) Eventually, you will see an HP Startup Menu
3) press the Function key for testing the hard drive (usually F2) and let it run.

The fact of the matter is that i am still stuck on build 1909

Re: Windows 10 update 20H2

You should have mentioned that -- because that is a completely different issue.

MS had a disaster with the 20.04 update, so much so that they blocked it completely for several months.  They did later release it, but some PCs are still blocked and won't see the update.  Those blocks are mostly due to hardware/driver issues -- but MS won't release the details or WHEN the blocks are going to be removed.

If Windows 10 v20.04 (or 20H1, depending on how you want to refer to it) is blocked on your PC, you can try to FORCE an update to the most current version of Windows 10 -- but that takes some work.

1) Use Macrium Reflect to create a backup on a large USB stick or external drive (see below)

2) Use this link to download and create Win10 install media: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

3) insert that into your PC (do NOT boot from it), find the folder containing the media, select the setup.exe file, right-click that and select Run as Administrator.  This will start an in-place Upgrade which could then take a couple of hours to complete.

If you are presented with a window asking for a product key, down near the bottom is a entry you can click to skip that. Do NOT enter a product key, as it will reuse your existing key and when you finish and get back online, Windows will automatically activate.

--------------- Doing Image Backup ---------------
I personally prefer to use third-party Backup solutions as they tend to be both more flexible and more reliable than any built-in solutions.

Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives.

What I recommend is the following:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from here: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB stick
3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD

My experience is that MR, when using the High Compression option, typically can compress the saved image file to about 50% of the USED space in the OS partition. This means if you have an 80GB OS partition, and 40GB is used, MR only needs about 20GB to store the image file.

I use this all the time and it typically takes less than 15 minutes to do the image backup and about the same time or less to do a restore.

NOW, you have the means to restore a full working system from the external drive or USB stick in only a few minutes.

HP warranty

This has nothing to do with Notebook Operating System and Recovery; but nor do any of the other limited help options offered. It is to HP's considerable discredit that even customers with new products are not only offered such scant support alternatives but that it shunts this responsibility on to outside volunteers. All I have wanted to know is why HP is sending me statements that its warranty expired on 15/06/2020 when my laptop hadn't even been BOUGHT at that time? Thank you.
