Performance and Storage issues

My PC is not performing properly. It is running slow and having many problems, even to the point that I cant even open more than 2 programs without it freezing. I try to update or fix anything needed but it says I need to have more space. The problem is that it always says that I have almost completely full storage, up to a few megabytes away, even if I delete and uninstall everything possible. I've deleted everything except for the programs that are needed for the computer to run but it still says I have full storage. It's making my PC completely useless.

My hp pavilion x360 stopped charging until it shut down and it won’t charge or turn back on.

The laptop first stopped charging and I just kept using it as I thought the charging would resume soon enough. Then it just shut off after running out of power I assume (I was in the kitchen when it shut down and wasn’t able to witness any potential messages it may have broadcast), and after which I can’t turn it on nor does it charge - I am assuming it doesn’t charge due to the charging light beside the ac outlet in the laptop remaining unlit after putting in the charger and the fact that it doesn’t turn on. I have checked multiple outlets and the charger appears to be fully intact with no sign of any wear and tear. I should also mention that this laptop is less than a year old. Please advise and thanks in advance!

Welcome to HP support community.

The hard drive has gone bad.

If you have an HP authorized service center near by, you should be able to take it to them and have it checked,

Here is a link to HP Service Centers, by Country/Region: Click here

I hope that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

You're very welcome.

Sorry the recovery drive didn't work.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know how to fix the error you are getting.

But you should be able to get your notebook back up and running by clean installing W10.

Make a bootable USB installation flash drive using the media creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Since the recovery partition is not working, etc, when you get to the window where it asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the hard drive, leaving just one partition of unallocated space.

Click Next, and W10 should install.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Here's what you need to do, to identify the issue and resolve it accordingly

I suggest we Perform a hard resetAttempt a BIOS recovery  and then, Run the System Diagnostics tests.

If the issue persists, try the below steps:

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Connect the notebook to a power source using the power adapter.

  3. Press and hold the Windows key  and the B key at the same time while the computer is off.
  4. While still pressing both keys, hold down the Power button for one second, and then release the Power button and the keys.

The power LED light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds. You might hear beeping sounds. Afterwards, an HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the BIOS update begins.

If recovering the BIOS did not resolve the blank screen problem, continue to the next step.

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

Hi:

The error code reported, Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure, means the hard drive needs to be replaced, and the operating system reinstalled.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

You should not be having problems like this with a new PC!

You paid for free HP Tech Support as part of the warranty coverage, so you might as well make use of it.

Unfortunately, we are NOT HP Tech Support and we have no way to diagnose or repair your PC, so while this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about troubleshooting and repairing your machine remotely.

I did this recently and the HP Tech was able to remotely access my PC from the Internet to check out the problems.

If they are unable to fix your PC, then you need to explore what options you have to get it replaced under the warranty.

Here are some things you can do to recover some of the disk space:
http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3012-disk-cleanup-open-use-windows-10-a.html
http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-clean-up-winsxs-folder-in-windows-10/

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/83441-free-up-drive-space-windows-10-a.html

In addition, I have found the utility Cleanmgr+ to have LOTS of options for removing Windows junk, including log files. I use it practically every day. You can get it from here: https://www.getclone.app/download/category/11-cleanmgr

Also, there is a freeware app known as Wise Disk Cleaner. I use it every day to get rid of junk files: https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-disk-cleaner.html

Thank you for replying. I have actually contacted hp tech  support and they are helping me send my labtop to them for repair. What I'm nervous about is that they cant repair it or it's a bigger issue than expected. Theres no water damage or cracks etc.... I noticed the power cord  connector would sometimes get reeeeally hot. That didn't seem normal. Was it just a disfunctional powercord or my wall power outlet?

Just reaching out to my community for anyone that might know about this.

Re: Factory settings

First thing you need to understand is that a factory reset only REFORMATS the drive; it does not WIPE it. That means any standard forensic data recovery tool will be able to retrieve most, if not all, of your personal data from the drive.

So what you need to do is the following:
1) Remove the drive from the laptop
2) Connect the drive to a working PC using a USB-to-HDD drive adapter (like the one illustrated below)
3) Download and install the free partitioning tool MiniTool Partition Wizard (MTPW) onto the PC
4) Use MTPW to Wipe the partitions on your old drive
5) Reinsert the now blank drive back into your PC

Make a bootable USB recovery drive using the HP cloud recovery tool on a working PC.

The recovery drive can then be used to install Win10 and the HP drivers and utilities that originally came with your PC.

Here is the link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06162205

Boot your laptop with that USB stick and use it to factory reset your PC. Since the drive is actually blank, there will be nothing for anyone to recover from it.

Eventually, the PC will reboot into initial setup. At that point, turn off the laptop.
