Re: Admin password or power on password

Sorry, we are no longer able to provide any assistance with this.

I know we used to give out codes to bypass password issues, but the Community Policies changed this March such that we are now PROHIBITED from assisting customers in bypassing Admin or BIOS passwords, or in resetting those passwords.

For assistance in this NOW, you have to contact your regional HP Customer Support location directly as they will confirm ownership of the PC before providing any assistance -- something we are not able to do from here.

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

Good Luck

Are you having issue with the built in keyboard or an external keyboard?

Could you also run a hardware diagnostics test on Keyboard and let me know the results. Instructions on how to run a component test for keyboard can be found here

Why is causing my HDD to fill up with temp files and drastically reducing capacity?

Something is causing massive-sized temp files to fill up HDD.  It will consume 200 GB in a few days. In looking at properties of some of the files in the folder the content is "Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Manager".

This happened last year and when I uninstalled and reinstalled Bitdefender Internet securiy the problem stopped. It's now back. I can repeat the fix before but I don't think Bitdefender that is the cause it's just the symptom.

Anyone have an idea what's going on?

Thanks,

Frank

Hi:

The error code reported, Hard Disk 1 Full Test Failure, means the hard drive was damaged in the fall, needs to be replaced, and the operating system reinstalled.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.  The HDD R & R procedure can be found in chapter 6.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05985644

After you replace the hard drive, you can reinstall W10 for free as follows...

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, if your PC is not working.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

Select Download tool now, and select Run.

If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.

On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.

Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

Select which media you want to use:

USB flash drive. Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

Then you can reinstall the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.

HP Support Assistant is not essential software. You already have WIndows Update to handle WIndows updates (both essential and optional ones). If HPSA is incapable of updating itself without errors, just go to "Add or remove programs" (or "Apps and features") in your Windows Settings/Control Panel, then select HP Support Assistant, and select "Uninstall." Don't worry about finding and installing the updated version. You will be fine without it.

Updates to HP device drivers and other such things are much less frequent than Windows system updates. Your PC should be fine with just Windows Update. If you have an HP printer or all-in-one, visit the HP Support website once a quarter or so and look for new drivers or firmware for your model. Also do this if you run into trouble that a reboot can't fix. Don't worry about software updates other than drivers and firmware. You don't need them.

Re: Pavilion dv6-6b47dx bluesceens at installing windows

Thanks for the reply, it's not a memory issue. I have tested all the memory in a different computer, and changed out them in the Pavilion. However, it turned out it's a BIOS/North Bridge issue. It will detect any amount of memory, but when the x64 driers are getting installed, it crashes. But I have used an x86 installer of Windows 7 Home Premium, and that works flawlessly! So thanks for the help, but it turned out to be an expensive fix.

And Paul yes it had 2 sticks of DDR3-1600MHz (both 4GB), but I have removed one, so the other 4 doesn't cause any problems (and since 32 bit windows wants to install anyway, I decided to upgrade another machine with 4GB).

Sorry, have no idea what is filling up the drive to the tune of 200GB or more!

If it was 20-30GB, my guess would be Windows Updates, but with that much stuff, I have no clue.

However, here are some things you can do to recover some of the disk space:

http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-clean-up-winsxs-folder-in-windows-10/

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:

Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP Support Community!
Sorry, but basically -- no.

The HP Recovery drive is very sensitive and should it become corrupted, which would be my guess in your case, it can not be used to do a recovery.

In that case, you would have to order something known as HP Recovery Media ...

HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities.

In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.

You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update".

If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (650) 857-1501.

If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, another site you can check is: http://www.computersurgeons.com

When you get the media, if it is a USB stick, insert it into your PC, pressing F9 to get a Boot menu, then select the External USB Hard Drive to boot from it.

Hello ,

Sorry to know !!

Whenever the Hard Disk Short/Long DST test fails that indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue

HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby

Please Contact HP if your HP Notebook is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media)

Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files. Re: Bios secure boot

Hi! Of course, I tried these methods, wrote down the image of the system on the USB flash drive, checked the boot from the USB flash drive on another laptop. But the hp mini 110 does not boot from the flash drive, although it sees the flash drive in the system. I read that in these models of laptops such as hp mini 110 and 210 many functions of the BIOS are closed

Re: Bios secure boot

Did you download and write 32-bit Windows ?

You did write it for BIOS ?

The boot option is located in the BIOS -> "System Configuration" -> " Boot options".

Once these are adjusted and saved, you can boot using F9 on start up.

The BIOS is not locked additionally. Nowadays most BIOS/UEFI have many functions hidden compared to BIOS from 10-20 years ago. BIOS/UEFI are made more user friendly in general, especially consumer class computers (home devices) like HP Mini. There should be nothing more special in HP Mini 110 compared to most other home class devices

Thanks for the detailed input WAWOOD, I'll save those links.  Although I am able to clear the temp files out manually, or use Windows Cleanup, my main goal is to determine WHY this is happening. What is there about the Intel Framework Manager that promotes these huge /temp files?

Hello

May I just add to what   wrote :

You can download and run the free app call TreeSize (or TreeSizeView) - portable from here >> https://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/

Make sure you run it as Administrator. It can scan your entire HDD in a couple of seconds and show you details about what and where is the most data on your PC. Having this information you can think what might be causing the extra files and where these may be from.

Also, the files may really be caused by the antivirus and since you already fixed it before by uninstall (reinstalling) BitDefender, I would definitely give this a try.
