My password has been the same since I purchased this computer 1 year ago. Today I tried to log in and the password didn’t work.
It comes up with a message saying I can change my password at account.live.com...... I attempted to do this and it worked with emails on my phone but not to log into my laptop. Can anyone help?

Hi,

At the password screen, hit enter 3 times and you should receive a 'halt code' - post back with this code.

Hi

My computer not working is a very broad statement, and no specific help can be given.

ISO images of various Microsoft OS's are available. They can be be downloaded (sometimes you need a licence key) and 'burnt' to a DVD or USB. They will NOT contain the appropriate HP software, like drivers etc, but will enable a repair to be started

You may need to change the boot order in the BIOS and/or change from/to LEGACY boot/SECURE boot.

To repair or recover data from a Hard Disk depends on whether the disk is dead or just dying.

https://gparted.org/

GParted is a free partition editor for graphically managing your disk partitions.

With GParted you can resize, copy, and move partitions without data loss, enabling you to:

  • Grow or shrink your C: drive
  • Create space for new operating systems
  • Attempt data rescue from lost partitions

GParted may show several partitions, it would be wise to note down the name, position and any other details and post them here.

If in doubt please ask.

Hello, I tried all the options you suggested. In fact, I had tried them before too. Nothing works.

Yesterday I got an error code: 0x80072ee7 while installing windows security updates.

What is wrong with my computer

HP Envy System call failed message

Good afternoon.

I have a HP Envy 17 and I have just connected a HP 24W monitor as I needed to expand my desktop working space. I followed the instructions online on how to connect with the HDMI cable and how to set up the Extend viewing. All seemed to be going well until I tried to open the folders on my laptop and I got a 'System call failed' message. I can open other aps, such as Word and browsers but I can't get into my folders.

Any ideas?

I'm running Windows 10, version 1703 64 bit.

I'm using the HDMI cable that came with the monitor.

I posted here as I'm not sure if this is hardware related (I never had the message before the monitor was added) or software related (as my folders seem to be the only thing that is affected).

, Thanks for your quick response and time.

I appreciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Are you able to boot into BIOS or F2?

If you are unable to boot into BIOS or F2 screen, it is a hardware issue with your PC.

Help! WIndows 10 Updatae problem

Just bought this notebook 1 month ago ...

During a recent windows 10 Update, an error message was displayed:

"Uninstall HP x360 Convertible PC"

There is no such program though.

There were 2 or 3 other threads on a similar problem but no definitive solutions as yet.  I have done the following:

(1) updated to the latest BIOS via the HP Support Assistant

(2) boot into safe mode, renamed the folder /windows/SoftwareDistribution to /windows/SoftwareDistribution1 and updated again ...

The above didn't help at all ...

Would appreciate any one who could offer a solution ....  Thanks ....

In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and shut down the notebook by right-clicking the Start Menu icon, select Command Prompt (Admin) and click ‘Yes’ to the uac prompt.
