Well, I've got a lot of issues on my hands. Besides my chromebook going out of warranty nearly a year ago meaning I can't live chat, here are the problems: a few months ago, the b, n, volume up, and +/= buttons quit working. I have to use the onscreen keyboard which can be a hassle; Sometimes, my wifi slider will keep flipping off even when I physically click it to turn on; Sometimes, even though my phone will be connected to the wifi perfectly fine, the chromebook will tell me there's no network to connect to; This used to happen more often, but, every other day or so, the chromebook will randomly freeze up and force me to restart, not even letting me open task manager. Sometimes that happens multiple times a day; If I try to use the camera app or a site like webcamtoy, that will also usually freeze the computer.
Hardware Issues??
Green Screen
Help! I do not know what this is but it is copyingthe top of my screen!
Re: I want to increase the RAM.
Hi
Thanks for stopping by the HP community. A very good day to you. I reviewed the post regarding assistance with RAM upgrades for the notebook. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description and stupendous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require information regarding this:
For a start please try these steps:
- Did you check the product specs of your computer?
- Did you check the service manual of the computer?
Please check the product specs link: http://hp.care/2vBCAVr
- It came preinstalled with
4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM (1 x 4 GB)
- The service manual link: http://hp.care/2urM4pW states that the computer supports a maximum of 16GB. Please check pages 2, 19,25 and 76 for a list of supported memory modules with part numbers.
Please note that HP does not recommend upgrading either the operating system or the computer’s hardware as the components that were initially installed with the unit are certified by HP for optimal performance. However, as you are very technically inclined, I would still request you to consult a local technician like Best Buy or Staples before proceeding to upgrade the unit.
This is to ensure that there are no compatibility issues and everything is a smooth sail.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a terrific week ahead.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Do you get the red screen after your pc loads into windows or before the windows logo?
Have you attempted to reset the PC using the F11 (recovery manager) during reboot?
Did you run a hardware test using F2 during reboot to identify the issue?
While you respond, The best way to resolve the issue is to follow the suggestions of the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

Re: Cannot read windows key to activate windows
The correct way to format and reinstall Windows would have been doing a System Recovery:

Did you not create your Recovery Media at any time after setting up the laptop?
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01867124
I'm sorry to tell you but HP does not record all the license keys of machines they ship. The only help they might be able to provide is Recovery Discs which install with no key required. Problem is HP doesn't stock Recovery Discs for most older machines. You may be able to find them on third party sites. You need the "full" Model Number to locate correct recovery media.G60 is the series:

Sometimes with a worn sticker it is possible to make out the letters if you use a small bright flashlight to shine on the label and/or try to read it at an angle.
Btw- are you sure your laptop has/had Windows 7 Ultimate? Most HP laptops ship with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Re: Laptop turns on but only to black screen. Won't boot or enter Bios.
Pc did not start up correctly and needs to restart. Went on to diagnosing computer. Pc did not start correctly again. I hit advanced options. I hit option to exit and continue to Windows 8.1 and my computer restarted at 9:33 p.m. Went to Preparing Automatic Repair and it's now 9:49 p.m and I'm still on the Preparing Automatic Repair screen. Ok my computer just turned completely off. 9:51 p.m.
Re: 15-au020wm lost password, no password reset drive, how to start?
Thanks for the reply but, all that did was reset my password on my microsoft account. It didn't help me sign on to my computer. My grandson is an I.T.kind of guy. He said give me the laptop and I'll fix it. I'll report back with how he did it.

HP RECOVERY FAILED ERROR:FFFFFF0C
I've looked only and can't seem to find help for the error code: FFFFFF0C
Re: Start > Shutdown causes reboot and bios update fail
Thanks for translating for me!
I was a bit frustrated too. I thought it weird that the installer was seemingliy downloading and running another installer.
But fixed now.
Re: Cannot read windows key to activate windows
I was still unable to read those 3 characters, even with a flashlight or even an ultraviolet light as suggested on the internet. At this point I don't know what to do.
Model number is g60-530us
It just seems unfair that neither HP or Microsoft has a record of these numbers or a way to pull them up, only a way to tell you when it's incorrect.
Re: Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller and Unknown Device not installed in Probook 4430s
Thank you, that's cleared up those exress devices.
Last question: My trackpad is not doing the things that other HP trackpads have done for me in the past (Ie two finger scroll); is that becuase I'm missing a specific driver for it? If so, could you tell me how to get it?
Also, the USB host driver is gviing me a request to run it every time the computer boots up. Sould this be happening?
Re: Cannot read windows key to activate windows
I am not saying it isn't possible the laptop was running Ultimate-just not very common. The Specs page also says it shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium. Your license key label should also have it across the top edge. Maybe it was upgraded to Ultimate? Did you buy the laptop new?
The Recovery Media for it is available here-but it is Windows 7 Home Premium:

Re: downloading
HP makes several different tablets- some with Android others with Windows. Since you mentioned Play Store in your PM I assume it is an Android tablet?
