Your HP ENVY 17-j150ca Notebook Computer is basically the same as my HP ENVY 15t-j100 CTO Notebook Computer, only bigger. You will need to provide the Intel AHCI / RAID drivers during the early portion of the installation. Please download "f6flpy-x64.zip" from Intel Download Center. Expand this and place the file/folder on a USB stick. Then;

1)  DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the BIOS. Save and EXIT

2)  Enter code as required to acknowledge the change

3)  Reboot and tap "ESC" then "F9" when prompted. Select "UEFI - CD/DVD" or "UEFI - USB Drive... and boot from the Windows 7 SP1 DVD or USB Stick
4)  Click Install Now
5)  Accept License Agreement
6)  When the option is displayed to select an installation type, click (Custom)

7)  There will be a link there called load drivers, insert the USB thumb drive with the Intel AHCI / RAID drivers, select the thumb drive and it should load the correct driver.

8)  Continue installation by following all prompts... MAKE SURE TO SELECT THE UNUSED PARTITON FOR THE INSTALL

GOOD LUCK

Most of the Windows 7 drivers from the HP ENVY TouchSmart 17t-j100 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC Drivers page should work on your computer.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi lasvegaswireman,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I did come across Daniel's article a few days ago (useful article by the way) and tried to create a slipstreamed CD with XP and SP3.

I created the ISO on an Intel machine with XP, rather than the intended AMD (15-n048ca) system. So I had to manually extract (what I thought were) the appropriate drivers. When it got to the Raid drivers in the XP install (F6), it came back indicating that the drivers were corrupt. Obviously the wrong ones.

Oh, by the way, yes I do have my recovery DVD's, files, etc and I have set the BIOS for legacy and non-secure boot as per Daniel's and others instructions.

It is a GPT HDD. I'm also trying to find info about what is on each partition and how to access them for repartitioning. I don't want to touch the 260MB EFI partition since that's critical to Win 8. However, I don't know if the 400MB partition is fully used or if I can reduce its size a little to make room for a boot loader partition. Worse comes to worse, I can delete the partition since I have the recovery disks. I need to have a boot loader within the first 100GB. I did manage to reduce the Win 8 partition to make room for XP and also create a data partition without affecting the recovery parts (so far).

(if you have any info on that, that would be a bonus. :) )

Unfortunately Win 8 came pre-installed, so I don't have an OS DVD or a Key to do a fresh install with my own preferred set up. I tried to get the key from HP before without success. So in addition to not being able to install the OS (only the entire system to factory default from the recovery disks), I can't even download some Additions to my Win 8 since it asks for the product key. If I had the key, I could also have set up the drive completely differently that would make it more compatible with XP, but that is a moot issue at this point.

Any way, back on topic...

I have subsequently gone back to the AMD SATA driver file and have found some other drivers which may be more suitable, so I will be trying to create another slipstreamed CD. I also have a USB floppy so I may just copy them their and try various combinations  when the F6 prompt comes along.

I'll report back if I have any success (good or bad).

thanks again.

Hi BHK6,

Thanks for replying. You are correct, I have not created any recovery disks. I believe I am still running windows 8. I have only had the notebook for about 3 months.

Issue wtih HP ENVY m6 Sleekbook of Screen Reload

Hi Experts,

I have been facing an issue with my HP ENVY m6 Sleekbook that keeps reloading the screen. After the laptop boots and I am logged in, the screen stays on the start menu. If I try to switch to the desktop, still the start screen opens up. Also, the start screen too just keeps reloading itself. I am not able to do anything on the laptop like search something on the start bar or open any folder or documents or any other screen. I was able to open the Internet Explorer app though without any issue and it doesn't take me back to start screen.

I have tried the Advanced Options and doing a system restore to 2 weeks back. I have been using the laptop daily and haven't anything new except for the system updates that might have happened automatically.

Has anyone else experienced this before or can suggest what to do? I could try the restore to factory settings, but I don't want to lose my documents. Since I am not able to open any folder, I may not be able to copy the data.

Laptop bought on Thanksgiving from Best buy. Should still be under HP warranty.

Thanks a lot for spending your valuable time on my post.

Regards,

Amol

My machine is a Pavilion model, 17-e049wm and came with windows 8 operatin system.  I did a software downgrade to windowos 7 and now two of the three USB ports won't work, it is locking up some times and is driving me nuts.  I was told that the drivers for the two USB ports is not available for windows 7, there is a way to fixt that; or it will be better for me to go back to windows 8.  Please advise.  Luke 56.

Hi,

Unless you have deleted the Recovery partition on your machine, otherwise your machine should have a Recovery partition. Make sure backing up all of your files before restoring the PC/laptop to factory settings.

To set your PC/laptop to factory settings, restart the PC/laptop. At the HP welcome screen hit repeatly the F11 key (or Esc key) to launch the recovery process. Follow the instructions provided on the screen.

Please also check this:

Regards,

ps We cánt format the Operating System. It's a software and we don't format software.

CPU for A8AE-LE (Amberine)

I want to upgrade the CPU on my A8AE-LE (Amberine) mobo.  On the specs page for the mobo:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c00496044#N4

it states that the board can take the following CPU:
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 up to 4800+

I purchased an AMD Athlon 64x2 (ADO48001AA5DO) CPU, and it doesn't fit the socket.  Same socket, but different pins are omitted.  Are there different models of AMD Athlon 64x2 ?  If so, how do I choose one that will be compatible with my board?
