Not trying to be rude, but you're not going to get much help from HP with this problem.

 

For two reasons ...

 

First, unless you used previously created or ordered HP Recovery Media (which is a set of CDs), the version you installed is NEVER going to activate because your PC's product code is only good on HP OEM versions.

 

Second, ordinarily I would recommend using HP Recovery Media, but HP quits retaining that after 5 years from the product's release -- and your XP machine is undoubtedly a lot older than that.

 

So basically, you would have to check these alternate sites to see if they have any HP Recovery Media for your PC:

http://www.computersurgeons.com/  and http://www.restoredisks.com/
