Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

See if this touchpad driver works for you...

This package provides the driver that enables the ELAN Precision Touchpad on supported computer models that are running a supported operating system. For systems that support the backlit keyboard feature, the driver enables keyboard backlit wake up.

Hi:

There is no telling when Microsoft will push the W11 update to your PC.

It could be tomorrow, it could be months from now.

If you want to force the update today, you can click on the Windows 11 Installation assistant button (first option) at the link below to begin the upgrade process to W11.

Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

HP has released W11 drivers for your notebook, so it should be able to handle the upgrade.

I note that it is either a 440 G7 or a 445 G7, as there is no such model as a 447 G7.

Hi:

See if this works...your notebook's processor is in the Intel Tiger Lake family like the 11th gen core processors, which require a special storage controller driver in order for W10/W11 to 'see' the hard drive.

See the info at the link below.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-15-f2000-laptop-pc-series/35900344/model/35900346/document/c...

Here is the link to the driver you need...

This package contains the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology is designed to provide functionality for the Intel Storage Controllers. The driver improves Serial ATA (SATA) disk performance with Native Command Queuing.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp111501-112000/sp111776.exe

There is one thing wrong in that document, and that is where HP tells you to right click on the Intel driver file and select Extract to

When I ran through the steps, I don't get an Extract to option when I right click on the file.

So, if you have the same issue, download and install the free 7-zip file utility from the link below.

The 1st file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

7-Zip (7-zip.org)

Then you can right click on the exe file, select 7-Zip from the menu, and select Extract to: and let it extract the file into its folder name (sp111776), and copy that folder to your USB flash drive, and continue with the instructions.

Hi:

Since you have not previously installed W10 on the PC, I don't know if you can try clean installing W10, and then use the W8.1 product key in the BIOS to activate the installation.

Clean installing W10 would require you to reinstall all of your programs and files after W10 installed, and there is still no 100% guarantee it will work.

Now You can Activate Windows 10 Using Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 Product Key – AskVG

Assuming you want to take the chance on this, I recommend that you make a system image of your current W8.1 installation prior to installing W10, so you can easily reinstall your current configuration in case the clean install fails too.

I use the free Macrium Reflect software to do that, under the Backup at Home section.

Along with the system image, make sure you create the bootable DVD or USB rescue drive you boot from to access the system image stored on your portable hard drive.

Macrium Software | Reflect Free Edition

How to clean install W10...

How to do a Clean Install of Windows 10 the Easy Way (howtogeek.com)

When you get to the part of the installation that asks you to enter a product key, select the I don't have a product key option.

You can use the free showkey plus utility that I zipped up and attached below to see your W8.1 product key so that you can activate W10 after it has installed.

If you follow the directions, it shows this page

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06162205

Scroll down to the Video and start it.  The video explains how to do the process.  Go to the Microsoft Store, if running Windows 10 on the PC to retrieve the media.  Get the HP Cloud Recovery Tool from the store and install on the PC being used.

Have you done that?

Thank you for a speedy reply. Your link shows "sp111776.exe" while pointing to "sp111660.exe". I downloaded and tried both anyway but without any luck.

I have F08 BIOS revision and only did "reset to defaults". Interestingly in the guide you provided installation skips steps 3-7.

FreeDOS boots without problems so disk appears to be ok. I get to step 8 of the guide so flash seems to be good as well. Any suggestions on what I can try next?

When "hide drivers that aren't compatible ..." is checked "9A0B(TGL)" and "09AB" get hidden. With both set of drivers I offered all the available folders to explore presence of drivers but no compatible one is ever found.

Don't worry! We are in your corner.

I understand that your HP notebook is not working correctly. I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. The last thing I can suggest try and restore the OS back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.  The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hp pavilion won’t go pass welcome screen after reboot

I have done the system reboot. Done f2 and f11. Completely redid the windows on it and it still won’t go past the welcome screen. I had it up to the loading windows and it just restarted and went to the welcome screen again. Help!! I love this computer. I’ve bought another cheap laptop in the meantime. But I want this laptop to work again i do t care if all my data is erased and it starts from scratch. Just want my laptop to work again

The tool appears to have worked but it is not without it's own issues, at least for me. I would not recommend using it to the average computer user.

The directions for use on website have potential to cause trouble for many users. Turning off Secure Boot and boot order in BIOS is not as described in directions.

Poking around in BIOS not for the faint of heart in general and I imagine majority of users don't know it exists.  Confronting the casual user with accessing BIOS and then having them find settings that aren't in BIOS at same location as instructions is risky.

Once past that initial bump in the road, after changing the boot order in BIOS I was able to run tool but it had more surprises.

As the tool runs it has various prompts and flags that the user has to take appropriate action with. Most centered around "Do you want to recover files or wipe the slate clean. I wanted to wipe the slate clean so clicked appropriately. That is also a point of risk for the casual user.

So process runs its sequence but it never gives a defined  "FINISHED" end point. I let it loop through process at least 4 times worrying that the install was missing something and maybe it would give me a sign it was done.

Ultimately I pulled USB drive at what seemed where the process should have been complete. Went back in to BIOS to put boot order back to normal and released machine to see what would happen.

It did as I hoped and started the more typical startup sequence of a fresh out of the box computer.

Also, this is a hours long process from time you download Cloud Tool to the time computer is ready to be used by the owner of computer. I ended up going to bed and left laptop to do its thing.

At this point I don't know if it is Windows 10 or 11 because it is only showing small blue background window as setup has a ways to go yet.

An addendum to my previous post.

The Windows installation, NOT the Cloud Tool asks if I want to install Windows 10 or 11 and recommends 11 which is what I have chosen.

To me it appears Cloud Tool wipes drive, lays down a very basic Windows OS image, enough to get network/internet connectivity  and for it to then connect to MS to commence downloading files, Configures machine to owner, via email, PIN, password entry then downloads all files common to both Win 10 and 11.  Asks 10 or 11 and heads off in which direction is chosen.

    So...

Tool works, risky for casual user, appears to lay down very basic version of Windows OS.

The basic Windows OS then does the heavy lifting of installing full and most current version of either Windows 10 or 11

I would call your original post as solution but I think users should read my whole commentary.  So not going to check as solution as it appears doing that hides the intermediate comments which people need to know up front.
