Base System Device, and Unknown Device drivers missing Windows 7 Ultimate

Hi there

Since a fresh Windows 7 64 Bit install there are some hardware without drivers on just not recognized. Here are the hardware ID's. Hope someone can help get this sorted? Laptop runs much slower than it should with the CPU it has. Is an upgrade from 4GB to 8GB RAM worthwhile?

Thanks. That solved it. Any thoughts on the RAM upgrade? Got the below information about RAM on the system however that mix doesn't seem to show up in the sites selling RAM.

Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM
PC2-6400, 1066-MHz, DDR3

Gmail layout wrong due to HP SimplePass

Hi, I recently got a HP Envy 15-j160no notebook, and was hoping to use the fingerprint reader. I updated the HP SimplePass software to be compatible with Chrome, and got the Chrome extension. Saving passwords seem to work OK after this update, but the problem is that it messes up the layout of Gmail. I've searched in other forums and seen that other people have the same problem with the HP SimplePass extension, but I have not found a solution to fixing the problem. As a result I've had to disable the SimplePass extension, but am disappointed since that means I'm not able to use the fingerprint reader. Do any of you have a solution to the problem? I would like to  use SimplePass, but need the webpages to be displayed properly. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

My pc won't boot on an usb key

Hi,

I wanted to install Kali Linux yesterday, but my computer doesn't seem to recognize the many usb key I've made.

I've downloaded the official Kali Linux (x64) and Kali Linux mini x64 ISO files on the official website.

I've burnt these images on 3 usb keys, but none of these have worked : my boot menu (f9) just doesn't "know" these keys are bootable (I've plugged my keys one by one, with one image burnt onto it).

When I go to the boot directory of my usb key where I've burnt the regular kali linux iso, there's an "efi.img" file that I can't open, it says it's corrupted, I don't know if it's normal or not. But on my kali linux mini key, this file is in the grub directory, which is directly under "boot".

I've disabled the "secure boot" in my bios, but for some reason, I can't enable Legacy boot sources, because no matter if the secure boot is disabled or not, everytime I try to enable these boot sources, it tells me that I have to disable the secure boot.

I think I've pretty much told you everything I knew ! I really need this to work for my studies, and I don't understand why it doesn't work at all so I can't really try to fix it on my own.

Hopefully you guys will be able to help me. If not, thanks for paying attention to my post anyway :smileyhappy:

edit ; it seems like I've posted in the notebook section, sorry about that, I just clicked "post" in a randome thread I found on google, I didn't think this would be in this section

Hey, I had this problem too. I have two Pavilions, with flawless touch-pads, so when I got the fancy Envy model (with this issue) I'd make fun of it, since I would Envy my Pavilion. Alright, enough of that. I wasn't going to deal with this rubbish, so I began to troubleshoot. It wasn't necessarily a driver problem, since that would be dumb, to go unnoticed by HP techs, so I determined that my laptop had a hardware problem causing the erratic mouse-pad. Plus, there are several similar complaints easily found online through simple web searching. Seriously, some "Control Zone" huh? These words are both taunting and vexing. Anyway, I opened my laptop, and also found a few screws that were the wrong length, compared to what was inscribed on the system and written in the manual. Once I had reached the back of the mouse touch-pad, with the system-board out of the way, I began to remove the screws and tape attaching it to the rest of the laptop structure. I made sure I removed anything that looked foreign, like white stickers covering other labels. This included the restraining tape, I didn't want that there either. Basically, I unplugged and removed the Control Zone touch-pad from my laptop, along with any unnecessary labels and tape. Then I aligned the touch-pad with the single-centered button that clicks whenever the touch-pad is used as a left/right button. Finally, I carefully added the main touch-pad screws without over-tightening and sealed up my laptop. I'm using the default drivers and settings with Gestures disabled and it's working much better now, and keeps working compared to before, when it would stop randomly and point erratically. My Pavilions were better, though. They worked satisfactorily right out of the box, and still do. I solved this by removing my HP laptop touch-pad component and carefully installing it back.

Anti Virus for Windows 8.1

Hello,

My laptop 15j109tx came with Windows 8.1 and Mcafee LiveSafe - Internet Security.
After trial run, I opted for 1-year contract for Mcafee LiveSafe - Internet Security.
Later, I came to know that 8.1 comes with Windows Defender. So, this time I am
planning to try Windows Defender. Can you pls let me know the steps to deactivate
Mcafee and activate Windows Defender, keeping in mind that later on I might again want
to sign up for Mcafee and so might have to enable it and disable Windows Defender.
Also, after de-activating Mcafee and activating Windows Defender, how to enure/check
that these desired changes have taken into effect in the PC. Any precautions to be taken

with Windows Defender?

Thanks,
Anant

Missing right-click menu

Brand new PC arrived yesterday. On the lower left of the desktop, there is a Windows "start" icon. But when we right-click it, no menu pops up. On my PC (exact same model), the menu pops right up. We need this for basic functions, such as Shutdown, Sign Out, etc.  Possibly a setting?

Advice appreciated.
