I have the same issue trying to get Ubuntu/Lubuntu loaded.
I thought it was me, but...
I checked out the Debian guy's (Steve) work, but cannot afford the 3.7G download via mobile data.
(It was hard enought justifying 1G for Ubuntu.)

First let me clarify. At the end of the Full System Recovery, I am left with the old, slightly unstable Windows 7 (SP zero) not SP1.
You asked if I have formatted the C: Drive. To the best of my knowledge Windows 7 will not let me format the drive that contains the OS. However, I have done at least 4 Reinstalls which claim that the first thing that they do is to format the drive.
I'm not sur what you mean by "custom installing" only a few updates. The failure of Windows Update is such that there are no updates even listed and the updte history is completely blank. Selecting 'Check for Updates' gives an error message which claims that Windows Update service is not running. According to Services it is Started and Auto (with delay).
The trim on the Windows Update page is red. Before the crash it was always green.
I have run many checks of the hardware of my laptop. It is fine. The new disk drive is significantly faster than the old one.
I have updated the BIOS from F.1A to F.1D. It looks okay.
Thanks for your suggestions. I was stumped.

I have a C4680. Can't scan anymore. What might be the problem? Then i tried to download a drive from HP thinking it might solve the problem. The screen says click "download" to start downloading. But where is the "download" button?
Thank you.
Hi,
I have problem with WIFI drivers. I have downloaded all drivers of Windows 7 64 bit from HP site. I have installed all drivers successfully except WIFI driver in windows 7 proffessional 64bit OS.
No error message am getting. but when i checked in computer management console, network controller is still not updated.
I have clicked on network controller and cliked on update driver and selected already installed wifi driver .inf file. but it is not taking properly. Showing error as "This driver cannot loaded". please help me out.
Hi Chetiya,
I followed ur advice as below:
"1.Right-click on "Computer" icon and select manage.
2.This will launch the Microsoft Management Console.
3.On the left side of the MMC, click on "Disk Management" and it will show you all of the partitions.
4.Right-click on the "HP Recovery" partition and select "Mark as Active Partition."
5.When the warning prompt appears, select "Yes" - Reboot the notebook and it will automatically boot into the Recovery Manager (without having to press F11). "
This will work given that you have intact recovery partition, any version of windows 7 (may be vista and xp too) installed. But be mindfull once you mark it as Active Partition it'll automatically boot in recovery partition and you'll have to restore the computer to out of the box state. Otherwise you'll have to use some utility to chagne boot loader.
Did all the steps above but now the HP Recovery Manager says - C:\system.sav\util\diskutil.exe support file is missing and I can not revert back and boot. Can you suggest any Utility or solution to this problem. I am now in a position as if I am groping in dark.
regards
Krish

I purchased Microsoft office 2010 when I purchased my computer from HP. My computer went through the recovery process several months ago and I can no longer access Office as it requests the product key and no longer have that information. Microsoft referred me back to HP since the program was purchased with the computer and came loaded. Who do I contact (and how do I contact) at HP to obtain a new product key.
Thank you.

My "T" button broke, so I downloaded a software called SharpKeys so I can remap the "5" button to the "T" button. However when I remaped it, now some of my shortcuts do not work such as Left CTRL + V, Left Shift + V .. The right shift and ctrl shortucts work perfectly. Even after I deleted the mappings and brought back the "5" button to its original functionality.. the shortcuts still don't work. Also when I turn on my laptop and prompted to enter my password, an uknown letter/number is being added to the password field constantly until i actually press on the field.
Is there a way to maybe restore the default registry or settings of my keyboard.
If there is no way to fix this up, I am replacing my keyboard anyway this Friday so maybe then the problem will be fixed?
Also I have found a weird file in the registry for the keyboard called LastDeleteDate, here is a screenshot http://prntscr.com/6nx8or .
Thank you!!
Hi is there a fix for my I E keeping on shuting down

Blanche,
The information is essentially the same for the Windows 8.1 Operating System. The point of the exercise is that you carefully, most carefully, remove anything that is "foreign" to the partition and do you utmost to leave the original contents intact. In many instances, the outcome is successful.

From the earlier Post on the subject:
The following file list was pulled from a Windows 8.1 Operating System. The files shown represent the files one might find in a "clean" Recovery Partition. Obviously the dates on your files would differ.

Completely uninstall SharpKeys with this and reboot the computer. The keyboard should restore to default.
