Re: I have an HP Stream 8 5909, forgot password, need to totally reset, how do I do that?

Recovery Failure

My original hard drive failed in my Pavillion 15-ba154nr.  I replaced it with a new 480 GB SSD drive and tried to recover the OS using a USB and the recovery software downloaded from HP.  The recovery failed with this message:

I am at a loss on how to fix this.  Alternatively I own a second Pavillion 15  same model.  If the recovery doesn't work can I clone the drive of the 2nd computer and use it on this one?

problem with battery

Hey! For a long time can't find th e battery for notebook. Advice me please what battery I can buy to replace mine?

It doesn't keep te charge so in service I was told that it's neccessary to change it.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. 

 

Try restoring the BIOS settings to defaults - 

 

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F10 once for BIOS.

4) Press F9 for BIOS defaults.

5) Press F10 to save and exit.

 

Also, update the computer using these steps -

 

Step 1 Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Click on this link to run Windows Updates troubleshooter.

 

Step 2 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

 

Step 3 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. 

 

To better assist you - May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

 

While you respond to that, try these steps to test the Hard Drive - 

 

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F2 once.

4) Go to Component test.

5) From the list, run the Hard Drive (extensive) test.

OK, yes. Based on your description (what happens and what you have done already), I would advise you reach to HP or HP Authorized Service Center to repair the PC - the technicians should know better.

 

I hope it doesn't last too long. Let me know the final outcome and if you come across obstacles.

That was originally created for Laptops.

Then it was dumbed down for desktop users.

 

Desktops don't have a battery, and some laptops have a removable battery, and others an integral battery.

 

So the instructions are a bit generic, but effective.

Just to let you know with downloading the os recovery from HP Cloud onto my USB drive of 64gb . reinstalled it and the computer is working great now. sadly looks like 2 third party softwares HP installed are not in with it, but thats ok i will see about them later. thanks again for your help.

Hi
First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.

Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat

NOW begin checking/testing/proving the Hardware is fit for purpose.
Power on your PC, press ESC (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows is a Windows-based utility that allows you to run diagnostic tests to determine if the computer hardware is functioning properly. The tool runs within the Windows operating system in order to diagnose hardware failures. If the HDD passes test then maybe a software issue is to blame, assuming things like the CMOS/RTC battery have not depleted.

After re formatting and installing a clean windows OS, I am seeing a peculiar issue .

the laptop allows me to enter windows only when the bootable media is connected.

when bootable media is not connected it again sticks to the same screen as I highlighted in this thread .

am I facing some hardware issue or this laptop is a crap.

BUT if you give the whole story, then maybe we can present a possible solution...

I'm guessing here, after trying to piece together your posts...

 

You have a clean install onto an SSD?   YES/NO

 

The Boot Manager is incorrect,  in that the bootable device is a USB? YES/NO

 

You have tried ESC and F9 to select the SSD to boot from?  YES/NO

 

You have tried......

From either the C:\ or the X:\ prompt try the following
cd boot
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /RebuildBCD

YES/NO

 

 

Re: Recovery Failure

Hi:

 

I can't help you with why the recovery media didn't work.

 

I would say the most likely reason the recovery image you created assuming you used the cloud recovery client utility was designed to install on the 1 TB hard drive your PC originally came with.  Your replacement drive is less than half the size.

 

Anyway, instead of trying to clone the drive which may also bring the same or other problems, I recommend you clean install W10 using the media creation tool to create a bootable 8 GB USB flash drive.

After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
