Need to order HP recovery discs for desktop past warranty date.

Subject Pavilion Elite HPE-450t,   Model XM556AV. S/N 2MD04414TG

i need a set of recovery disks for this desktop.   I believe the software had been damaged by a rootkit bug (Thanks Kids).

Malwarebytes has helped but the PC does not update at all.  I suspect the damage prevents any diagnostic repairs, so I'm assuming a recovery is needed.  I tried the steps in HP support but the software never gives me the option of (System Recovery).  I see 2 options (1) try disk recovery; or (2) replace the hard drive completely with a formatted new hard disk.

Please help me with both option.

Unfortunately, there is no HP Recovery Media linked to the HP Product Page for your PC. This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP no longer stocks the recovery media for your PC. They no long stock recovery media for the older PCs.

You can try contacting HP Customer Support directly, using the links below, to see if you can order if from them:

HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.

You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836
---------------------------------------
However, HP Customer Support is generally not available on the weekends, so you might have to wait until Monday to contact them.
---------------------------------------

If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

orry to be the bearer of bad news, but that error message means that your hard drive has failed.

It will need to be replaced.

Once you have the replacement drive, you will need to use something known as HP Recovery Media to restore your PC to working condition. You were told you needed HP Recovery Media to restore your PC, but instead, you took a shortcut and forced the installation from media you downloaded.

That was the WRONG thing to do -- as that media requires a Retail product key, and since your PC shipped with an HP OEM version of Windows, it only has an OEM product key.

That key can NOT be used to activate the version of Windows you installed.  To activate that, you would have to purchase a license from Microsoft, and that will cost MORE than the HP Recovery Media set of disks.

Black Screen / Product Information not valid message

Hi all,

I have an EliteBook 8560p with dedicated GPU that's giving me two kinds of trouble lately.

First thing that occured was that the screen of my notebook remained black on startup. I could hear the windows startup

sounds, though. So, it boots, but without video. Without success, i tried docking it to a Docking Station or changing the RAM modules. It does that in about 50%  of all boot procedures.

A few days after this first occured, the computer came up with a message "product information not valid".WP_20161110_09_05_38_Pro.jpg

As a consequence of that, my Windows 7 installation fails to validate and thinks it's a non-genuine copy.

Can anyone out there help me with this issue? I really need this NB, and even reinstall won't fix this, as long as the Hardware-Information is not being set.

Thanks in advance

Sebi

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Generally speaking, when you do an in-place Upgrade of a Windows OS, it attempt to retain everything it can from the prior installation.  If one or more applications don't appear in the new OS, that means the the MS Upgrade tool has determined that those apps are not compatible with the new OS version -- so it does not retain them.

Here is the HP site page for drivers and software for your PC: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv4-1400-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/3945145/model/3979335

You can TRY downloading and installing the different Software Solutions from this page, but do not be surprised if they either do not install, or do not work.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

The HP Recovery Kit is a set of DVDs and a CD that can be used to restore your PC to its original condition.  HP does NOT ship these with their PCs, instead, they provide a function, built into the PC, that allows you to make your own set of disks.

If you did not exercise that function, then you have to order them, and pay for them.

Unfortunately, there is no HP Recovery Media linked to the HP Product Page for your PC. This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP no longer stocks the recovery media for your PC. They no long stock recovery media for the older PCs.

This is just a community self-help forum staffed by volunteers.

We have no capability for debugging problems with third-party (i.e., non-HP) applications.

You have several issues, let's deal with them one at a time ...

Regarding activation, the product key (not the activation code) is embedded into the UEFI firmware of the motherboard.  You can retrieve it using this utility:  http://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/2577-showkey.html

Regarding restoration of Win8, when you do the Win10 Upgrade, that is know to corrupt the HP OEM Recovery information.  HP Recovery might work, but usually, it does not -- and even when it does work, the restore installation is often corrupt and unstable.  The only reliable way of restoring the prior OS after a Win10 Upgrade is using something known as HP Recovery Media.

If you use THAT media, it will automatically reactivate after the restore, you don't have to enter anything.

Did you use THAT media, or something else? And if so, what?

We can proceed once you provide the information.

Thanks

Is the Key Code still legible on the bottom of the laptop or inside the battery bay?
