I encountered a similar issue when I first setup a Gateway laptop. Bad news was that this was the third defective Gateway in a row. Laptop would randomly turn the "caps locks" on and off. The resolution was to recovery the computer to a factory like state. Gateway said a one-time update at setup may have gone bad and performing a factory recovery should cure the issue and did.
Consider installing the HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) for your computer, as this may resolve your issue. Please note that it may work better if you first return the computer to a factory like state using you HP Recovery Discs, then install the BIOS update, and then finally reinstall Windows 8.
HP doesn't list Windows 8 drivers for your computer and it is unlikely that HP will support Windows 8 on this model. The HP 630 Notebook Computer may never fully support Windows 8.
