Maybe the power adapter was bad and the computer was running on the battery the whole time and when the battery went dead, the computer shut off and you didn't see it because it was at night while you were sleeping. Then when you got up and saw that it was dead, when you tried to turn it back on, nothing happens because the battery is dead. Try another HP adapter from someone you know that has an HP laptop. If you can't find one that way, try a local PC repair shop, they should be able to let you plug in one of their power adapters and let you know if it works.
