My touchpad and keyboard randomly stopped working. I was using a Logitech USB wireless mouse for awhile so I didn't exactly know when the touchpad stopped, but noticed once my keyboard failed. Rebooting didn't help BUT I found that my keyboard will function again after waking it from Sleep mode...or only after disabling my touchpad via Device Manager and rebooting (and keep the touchpad disabled) This is a short fix but I want my touchpad back as well. The light in the corner doesn't come on either.
Looking at Device Manager, my Synaptics Touchpad only displays after enabling "show hidden devices", and it shows Code 24. I am unable to make any changes through Mouse Settings because I get an error message to uninstall Synaptics. The driver it came with is already the most recent one available to download from HP (15.3.29.0).
So far I've tried
1.uninstalling the touchpad and rebooting - no change
2.uninstalling the touchpad then uninstalling the software/program via Control Panel, reboot, and reinstall - This will change the device to Code 10 (unable to start) but goes back to Code 24 upon reboot
3. same as above but ran "sfc /scannow" and "chkdsk" before reboot - no change or errors
4. Hard reset - no change
5. System restore - no change
6. Updated BIOS to F.29 - no change
7. Uninstalling drivers/software then REinstalling via HP Recovery Manager - Code 10 then back to Code 24 at reboot
8. System recovery - no change
I have the same problems in safe mode. I also had to keep my USB mouse plugged in during System recovery to click "Next", "Finished", etc
I've ran out of options and some of the solutions online that have fixed this issue have not helped me.
