registry key permissions

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, on a HP Pavilion dv6 notebook PC.  I am the Administrator.  I have been attempting to download a program from garmin.com without success.  I spent a couple hours on the phone with Garmin tech support and they concluded it was a problem with the permissions in my registry.  There are two registry keys that I have been unable to open or delete.  Both arrived as part of the failed installation process.  They are both in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Garmin.  The other registry keys in .../Garmin are working properly.  I think that if I can delete both, I can try re-installing the program, hopefully successfully this time.  I am using Norton Internet Security for my firewall and antivirus protection.  We tried disabling both of those during one of the attempts to re-install the program, but that didn't work either.  The error message I get reads "You do not have permission to view the current permission settings for [key name], but you can make permission changes."  When I click on "OK", a window "Permissions for [key name]" opens up, with one tab (Security) viewable.  There is nothing listed in "Group or user names."  When we tried adding a name there and then allowing "full control", we got this message: "Unable to save permission changes on [key name].  Access is denied."  Can anyone help me solve this?  Thank you.
