I own a Pavilion dv9700, that, until recently, was running Windows Vista Premium 64-bit.
The motherboard went bad.
I went to ebay and got a new one.
From this, I learned (the hard way) that the dv9700 has two different motherboards, one with and AMD CPU and one with an Intel CPU. The old motherboard was an Intel (I believe this is referred to as "Second Generation") and the "new" one was an AMD ("first generation").
The problem came when I plugged in the hard drive and tried to get Vista up and running. Several of the drivers, including, most importantly, the one for the on--board network adapter, failed to initialize. I've been through the HP website and downloaded drivers, but they didn't work.
I've kludged the problem by popping in another hard drive with linux on it. Linux just fired up and ran like a champ (HINT to Microsoft chumps!).
So how do I go about getting the OS to work? Do I have to buy another motherboard?
