HP Support Assistant Won't Open after Windows 8.1 Update

I own and run from a 

• HP ENVY m6-1205dx Notebook PC

and recently decided to update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. 

My HP Support Assistant told me that old Windows files from the previous version were taking up a lot of extra space on my hard drive so I should delete them and then start updating drivers and software so things wouldn't start having problems with older versions. 

Everything else seems to be working well after I reinstalled them, but HP Support Assistant is telling me that it ran into a problem and can't run even though I uninstalled the previous one and reinstalled the new one. 

Can anyone give me some advice here?
