I HAVE AN HP PAVILION dv6-3217cl, RUNNING WINDOWS 7 64 BIT OS. THREE DAYS AGO MY COMPUTER QUIT ACCEPTING MY PASSWORD ON THE SIGN-IN SCREEN. THE MESSAGE SAYS THAT THE SIGN-IN SERVICE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE PASSWORD. I CHANGED THE BOOT ORDER AND ATTEMPTED TO USE THE DVD TO RUN THE WINDOWS 7 UPGRADE DISC BUT IT WAS NOT RECOGNIZED AND THE OPERATING SYSTEM CONTINUED TO THE NORMAL SIGN-IN SCREEN. I THEN STARTED THE COMPUTER IN SAFE MODE, WHICH TOOK MY PASSWORD WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. I TRIED TO ESTABLISH NEW USER ACCOUNTS WITH THE INTENT OF RESTORING THE NEW ACCOUNT WITH A BACK-UP THUMB DRIVE. IN SAFE MODE I COULD NOT ESTABLISH NEW ACCOUNTS. I TRIED SYSTEM RESTORE AND IT HAD NO RESTORE POINTS. I TRIED SYSTEM RECOVERY AND IT DOES NOT WORK FOR ME IN SAFE MODE. I CHECKED THE FILES IN SAFE MODE AND THEY ARE NOT DELETED. I HOPE SOMEONE HAS SOME IDEAS. AT THIS POINT I AM GUESSING A VIRUS MIGHT HAVE CORRUPTED THE SIGN-IN PROFILE AND ACCOUNT?
