I'm sorry you're running into this issue with the updates and for the delayed response. I see that it was about 5 days ago that you posted. I just wanted to check with you and make sure those updates finally went through or if you were still having the issue?
With Windows 8, the updates come through less frequently to reduce how often a user has to wait for them to go through, but the downside to that is that when they do come through, they will probably take longer because there are more of them.
So it is important to be patient and allow them to go through without interruption. Some of those updates will be registry changes and interrupting one of these can cause the computer not to boot properly. Not all of the updates are registry changes, but one can never know for sure which one is.
My apologies. I certainly don't mean to lecture, but I just want to express the seriousness of some of the updates. :) I wouldn't want anyone to lose files over something so preventable. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of any assistance :)
