Welcome to the HP Forum, Weaverti.
The first thing you might try is going to the AVG forum
See if you can find anything recent on this issue.
As of a week or so ago (last week of Aug 2013), Chrome Version 29.x does not work with HP SimplePass.

Next, assuming everything else is working as expected and installing AVG is the only other variable,
then you might try the following:
- Try a Hard Reset to try and clear out any weird driver glitches.
- It is stipulated that you should be using the latest version of HP SimplePass. The latest version is more stable and less prone to issues.

If you are already on the latest versioin of SimplePass, everything else is working (AVG is still the only variable), you might try the following fix to slow down the start of the AVG software.
- Windows key + X> P (Opens the Control Panel) > Administrative Tools> Services
OR
- Windows key> type anywhere "services" > click on Services
When Services opens, scroll down and find your AVG service >
- Right-Click on the AVG service > Properties>
- In Properties, Next to "Startup type" > Select from the drop-down menu > "Automatic (Delayed Start)"
- Click OK
- Reboot / Restart the computer and log in
