You should've created HP recovery USB using HP recovery manager software just after initial setup of this notebook.

Contact HP technical support directly to know whether they're stocking recovery media for your model at present. I suspect they after not.

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

You can nevertheless, order from here: computersurgeons.com/p-24154-windows-8-64-bit-recovery-kit-731571-003-for-hp-pavilion-notebook-pc-model-number-17-e049wm.aspx

If you need steps to CLEAN INSTALL Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 in this notebook, let me know.

Additional drivers for your model from here:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-17-e000-notebook-pc-series/5375409/model/5388070

Overheating and shut down is not due to an operating system upgrade. Usually dust clogging inside, faulty fan or any other hardware is the cause, read this:

Which version of Windows 10 is installed?

Hyper-V  only works in Windows 10 Professional, not on Windows 10 Home.

Hi,

yes, I know. It's Win10 Professional.

Is there some log file I can check to see why it is failing?

Hi,

thank you for your suggestions, but VT-d and Vt-x are the first two things I've enabled after the first boot of my new laptop.

I also have followed all the steps you mentioned, but finally, during the reboot it says it could not complete the Hyper-V setup.

I have found something in the Event Viewer, but not sure it's related to that:

The description for Event ID 129 from source Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-Hypervisor cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.Virtualization-based security (policies: VBS Enabled,VSM Required,Boot Chain Signer Soft Enforced) is enabled due to HyperV.The time provider 'VMICTimeProvider' has indicated that the current hardware and operating environment is not supported and has stopped. This behavior is expected for VMICTimeProvider on non-HyperV-guest environments. This may be the expected behavior for the current provider in the current operating environment as well.

Power on code?

Press ENTER key 3 times, you would get System Disabled code.

Post this code here

Hey There! , Welcome to HP forums!

I understand you have issues booting into your PC and the light on caps lock is blinking twice repeatedly.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Please provide the product number on your PC to assist you better.

As you mentioned you have issues booting into your PC and the light on the caps lock is blinking twice.

Two blinks on caps lock LED indicates BIOS corruption.

If a BIOS corruption error occurs, you might not even notice the blink codes, because as soon as the computer recognizes the error, it restarts, attempts to recover the BIOS, and then restarts again. You might notice an extra-long startup process as a result, and a message indicating that the BIOS has been recovered might display on startup. If this occurs, update the BIOS on the computer.

If the computer does not automatically recover the BIOS, manually perform a BIOS recovery.

Turn off the notebook.
Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.
With the notebook off, press and hold the Windows logo key and the B key at the same time.
   NOTE:
On some notebook models, it might be necessary to press and hold the Windows logo key and the V key.
While pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows logo key and the B or V key until the HP BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).
The HP BIOS Update screen displays and the BIOS update begins automatically. This might take several minutes, and you might hear additional beeping sounds.
If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps. If the issue persists after repeating the steps, skip to the next step to Download a replacement BIOS file.
If the Power light turns off, the notebook has turned off because the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds only.
If your notebook starts Windows, update the BIOS to the latest version using the standard BIOS update procedure. For more information about updating your notebook BIOS, go to Updating the BIOS (Notebooks).
Click Continue Startup to prompt the notebook to restart immediately, or allow the notebook to restart automatically when the timer reaches zero.
After the notebook restarts, press Enter to continue.
   NOTE:
If the notebook repeatedly displays a message that the BIOS has been recovered, go to HP BIOS Application Selected is Corrupt or Missing for troubleshooting steps.
After Windows starts, if a message displays stating that the notebook was improperly shut down or that a boot problem was detected, follow the on-screen instructions.
You can now to enter the BIOS menu or start the Windows operating system.

Refer this article to know more information about recovering the BIOS.

Also, refer this article to know more information about blinking lights on your PC.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps.
