I can logon to my laptop with my fingerprint but have forgotten my Windows credentials logon password. Is there a way to reset the password once logged on with my fingerprint? Making a "Reset Password Disk" requires the Current password without a fingerprint input option, same with manually resetting the password.
Any suggestions?
Thank you for your fast response.
Yes it was done with the HP recovery software so it sounds like no personal data will be saved!
Yes, HP Recovery media creation does NOT store personal files.
In order to archive/back up personal files, you can do it manually (copy-paste) on external devices such as USB pen drives or external USB HDDs. CDs/DVDs are also an option but are very slow to copy/burn compared to other means.
Another options - built-in every Windows 7, 8, 10.
Create system images of your existing HDD or back up personal files. You may need external HDD to store the images.

Hi,
Are you using something like HP SimplePass?
If so, open windows Control Panel and in the top right, next to View by: select 'Large Icons'. From the new layout, select HP SimplePass - this will then prompt for you to swipe you fingerpring to gain access.
Once done, you should see to option to view your current Windows password ( Click the eye symbol to reveal ).

Thanks for the input, but I do not have HP SimplePass listed in Control Panel.
I was thinking of creating another Administrator Account, set up the password and finger print capabilities. Then delete the old Aministrator Account.
See any potential problems to that approach?
Hi Paul,
that worked fine

Assuming you are (now) logged into your computer using an account with Administrative privileges, you might try something like the following.
Windows 7:
Control Panel> icon view > User Accounts> Manage another account>
Create a new account> Enter a name for the account >
CHECKAdministrator> Create Account
Control Panel> icon view > User Accounts> Manage another account>
Select(Click) your (main) account from the list > Change the password >
Entera new password, confirm, and enter a Hint (to help you remember the new password) >
Change Password
Assuming the procedure works, when you next log into your main account, you may need to reset your HP SimplePass to once again use the fingerprint to log into the computer. The method used to reset access depends greatly on your Series AND version of HP SimplePass

I tried the recovery repair Cd to try and load the driver. I got the message that the driver failed to load. Also not accepted by the installation Cd.
Hmmm.
Hi,
That approach seems fine - one thing to check is that all the programs you require are available to the new account.

Waiting may not fix it -- take a look at the following for instructions to reset the Store App:

Run the troubleshooter for Windows apps
From TenForums:
Check out the "solution" regarding the time zone / time settings -- many applications are sensitive the the time being correct.

Try to uninstall McAfee completely and then reboot.
Eventually, run this McAfee consumer product removal tool to completely eliminate leftovers. Restart one more time.
You can rely on the built-in Windows Firewall , as well as Windows Defender. Don't worry, disabling McAfee won't affect your security - viruses don't fly with the air and don't auto-arrive on machines. As long as the firewall (Windows Firewall) is enabled, that's ok. There are certain rare cases where McAfee can cause severe slow downs with Windows Updates unless exclusions are applied.
