Hello

My nephew bougth this used laptop. It says HP 255. Windows 10 was installed, but it was sooo slow, so he asked me to install windows 7. I made bootable usb and installed windows 7. But then i got the message: selected boot image did not authenticate. I searched for solution and i found that i have to enable legacy support. But when i do, screen goes black and it does not boot. I have to take it apart and disconect cmos battery to reset bios. Nothing helps. I tried it for 5 times already. Is there any solution or should i just throw it out of the window? :)

Thank you

Hello, my name is Roberto,
long ago I installed windows 10 on my pc mini hp 210, and everything works well apart from the problem of updates, but over time I realized that the PC is always slower.I installed 2 GB of RAM and a Samsung SSD, but I did not solve the problem of slowness.QUESTION: having preserved the old key 7 windows starter code, is it possible to have the ISO image of the original windows 7 Starter ??

Thank you
Thanks for your understanding.

HP doesn't have the ISO.

If you have a good Windows 7 Starter key and not just what the key on the sticker that says OA, then you can buy a USB drive with Windows 7 Starter 32-bit on eBay, install Windows 7 Starter and use your key to activate Windows.

Hi:

What is the full model number of your notebook?

The number you posted is either incomplete or doesn't provide any info.

If it is a consumer class notebook (presario, pavilion, etc), and not a Probook, or Elitebook, when you enter any administrator password or power on password three times, the PC should generate a system disabled code.

Post the system disabled code you get including any capital or lower case 'i' that preceeds the code.

Hi,

If the factory reset option doesn't work for you, the only suggestion I can offer would be to clean install W10 as follows...

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, if your PC is not working.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

  1. Select Download tool now, and select Run.
  2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
  3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
  4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

  5. Select which media you want to use:
  6. USB flash drive.  Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

Then you can reinstall the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.

I explored the recovery disk (#1) and could not find any reference to a version or even a title--files are dated 2011.  When finished, it tells me to remove the media and reboot off  the hard drive to install further drivers and utilities and that numerous reboots will be required.  It would not allow the factory image recovery  because the new HD is 500gb rather than the factory 640gb, so I did one of  the other  options.  The win7 coa sticker is intact.

At this point I am not going to attempt to go with a SSD--just want to get the stupid thing running--my guess is that a 640gb legacy drive and a factory image recovery will work.  What do  you think?

You probably won't be able to find a brand new 640 GB hard drive, but you can buy a 1 TB SATA 2.5" hard drive.

You could start by providing us accurate information -- as I'm sure that your Stream is not running Windows XP.

We can proceed when you provide the information.
Thanks

Sorry, but I don't have very good news for you ...

USB sticks are notoriously unreliable.  I've had numerous ones fail on me and have never been able to recover anything from any of them.

But, if you want to make the attempt, here are some things you can try:

1) Download and install this utility http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/story/recover_data_in_3_steps_with_minitool_power_data_recovery_free_edition.html
2) Run the data recovery utility to see what can be retrieved from the USB stick.

If that tool does not find what you need, an alternative is Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva

And, if that does not work well, the best tool out there is this one, but only the trial version is free http://www.file-recovery.com/

Install Win 10 to m.2 SSD in 640 G1

$

I recently purchased a used 640 G1 in which the seller had removed the 2.5" SSD with Windows 10 and installed a new one but installed Linux on it, as an MBR disk. I was able to install and activate Win 10 Pro on that SSD, used MBR2GPT to convert it from MBR to GPT, then change the boot mode to UEFI in setup and everything ran just fine. As it's only a 120GB and can't hold my multimedia files, I wanted to install a spare 2.5" HDD for those but boot from the m.2 slot. I purchased a 120GB m.2 2242 and installed it in the m.2 slot, booted up, and it was immediately visible in Disk Management, where I designated it as a GPT disk.

I then attempted to clone the Win 10 installation to it using easeUS Todo, which has worked well for me in the past.  Even though the new m.2 is the same capacity as the 2.5 SSD, easeUS insisted that it couldn't clone it because the m.2 drive was too small.

So I decided that as I didn't have many apps installed, I would simply remove the original 2.5" SSD and do a fresh install of Win 10 on the m.2 drive. I reset the boot mode to UEFI with CSM and it booted up into the installation off a freshly prepared Win 10 installation USB. The installation appeared to run absolutely normally to the point where it normally reboots to complete the installation (connection to the wireless network, etc.) but it refused to do so. I can't recall the exact wording but I got a screen that implied there was no bootable media in the notebook and it would shutdown.

I have seen conflicting info in other threads about the proper steps to install Win 10 on an m.2 SSD in the 640. I'd be very grateful if someone could lay out the precise steps to get the BIOS to recognize the USB install stick all the way through to getting the notebook to boot from the m.2 slot to complete the installation, then reliably boot from the m.2 slot.

My apologies if I have simply been unable to find an existing thread with the info, but I am still recovering from eye surgery and may have missed it. Thanks very much!
