OS corrupted during service

$

I gave my laptop to an authorized service centre for reset as it's performance was too bad right from when I bought it. It is still under the one year warranty. Now I got a call from them saying that my laptop's Windows is corrupted and that I had to pay for buying a Windows CD to activate it again. Does this always happen during resetting? Or is that the executive's mistake? How do I proceed if it's their mistake?

Re: Does not boot after HD swap and system recovery

I explored the recovery disk (#1) and could not find any reference to a version or even a title--files are dated 2011.  When finished, it tells me to remove the media and reboot off  the hard drive to install further drivers and utilities and that numerous reboots will be required.  It would not allow the factory image recovery  because the new HD is 500gb rather than the factory 640gb, so I did one of  the other  options.  The win7 coa sticker is intact.

At this point I am not going to attempt to go with a SSD--just want to get the stupid thing running--my guess is that a 640gb legacy drive and a factory image recovery will work.  What do  you think?

Hello,

I have a HP Envy360 and it will not come on. I have charged it and have tried to hold the on/off button for the 30/60 second reboot. It still will not power on. Is there something else that I can do before taking it in to a repair shop?

Hi

So the 4 minute short test failed to run?

Therefore you should run a full diagnostic.

Hi

If you want a Windows DVD/USB you can make your own, it's a Lo-Cost/No-Cost choice.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Create Windows 10 installation media:- To get started, you will first need to have a license to install Windows 10. You can then download and run the media creation tool. For more information on how to use the tool, see the instructions below.

Also most PC's come with a Recovery Partition to restore the PC to Factory Fresh, usually F11 on a HP.
You may have had the option to make your own external version, yet again, Lo-Cost/No-Cost
HP Recovery Media Creation.pngHP Recovery Media Creation  (16 GB USB stick 1 attempt only)

So far there is nothing that the "executive" would need to charge you for IMHO.
How you convince them to return your property without paying a lot of money, I know not.

If in doubt please ask.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out :)

I see that your experiencing issue with the battery not holding a charge and error message pops out saying plugged in not charging,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
  • Have you performed hardware diagnostics on battery and Ac Adapter?
  • Did you try another charger?
  • Does the notebook shut down immediately (right after you unplug the charger)?
  • Do you get any error message on your notebook (Such as Plugged in, not charging, etc.)?

While you respond to those question, I have a few troubleshooting steps, you could perform to isolate the issue:

Run hardware diagnostics test on battery and Charger:

Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.
  4. The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
  5. To run both tests simultaneously, in the Component Tests menu, click Power Source, and then click Run once. Each component can also be tested individually.

AC Adapter Test:

The AC Adapter test provides an interactive test to determine if the AC power adapter is functioning properly. A good battery is required for this test. Before running the AC Adapter Test, HP recommends verifying that your computer can receive power by connecting a known working AC adapter.

Follow these steps to perform the AC Adapter Test.

  • In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click an AC Adapter Test.
  • Click Run once.
  • The AC Adapter Test begins.
  • When the test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.

Battery Test:

Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:

  1. In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click Battery.
  2. Click Run once. The Battery Test begins.
  3. When the battery test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen. For additional battery information, click Battery Details.

If the test passes, continue with these steps:

1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.

2. Expand batteries.

3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.

4. Shut down the computer.

5. Disconnect the charger.

6. Remove the battery.

7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.

8. Insert the battery only.

9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

If possible, try an alternate charger.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Computer won’t boot up- the power button flashed. Tried rebooting with a hard restart and power button lit up. Caps lock is blinking in a pattern of three times slow and two times fast. I got a little water on in last week, but it was working fine over the weekend after the water spill.

Hola and thanks again Paul! You must be the man for driver problems. I should have gone to you first before spending so much time trying to fix it myself. The usb ports work fine now. Only thing not working at this time is the sd slot. Is that considered a usb port? Or something else. When my son was using it he said it stopped working and he'd have to reload the system to fix it. Which he never did. So it might be a hardware problem. Otherwise, thanks again.

After factory reset windows 10 fails at reinstalling

$

The initial issue was that the laptop would go into hibernation after not being used (as expected) but then upon returning and waking the system I would be a blue screen asking me to login, after which it would be in the "Automatic Repair" screen;  I proceeded to reset while maintaining my files after a couple tries and eventually I would get back in, but it would utlimately return to this screen after returning to the laptop.  I was able to back up what was important to me, and then proceeded to attempt a facotry reset just to clean the slate and start fresh; the recovery part worked fine (it appeared) but windows during the installation would eventually popup with a window saying " Windows could not complete the installation.  To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.".

With that being said I made multiple attempts at resetting; tried some of the "Command prompty" tricks; attempted the "Reset This PC" with full recovery to blow everythign way; and the results were alwasy the same.

If anyone can offer any advice on what I need to do it would be greatly appreciated; at the moment its a dead brick.

Thank you.
