Re: Windows 10 1809 Update

Answer -- no one knows!

HP has no information on any scheduled deployments of 1809 to any PCs.

MS had already halted it once, now has three Upgrade Blocks in place (due to hardware/driver failures) and is "staging" the rollout -- meaning, it could be weeks or months before any individual PC receives the Upgrade.

There is nothing you can download that will allow you to reset your tablet.

Instead, you would have to purchase something known as HP Recovery Media -- and that will restore your PC to the original OS version that came preinstalled.

HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities.
In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.
You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
Once there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.
Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:
If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1
If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html
NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!
If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800)474-6836
If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, another site you can check is: http://www.computersurgeons.com
When you get the media, if it is a USB stick, insert it into your PC, pressing F9 to get a Boot menu, then select the External USB Hard Drive to boot from it.

Hi:

The code you received, Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure, means the hard drive needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

Below is the link to the service manual.  The HDD R & R procedures can be found in chapter 5.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04091762

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, if your PC is not working.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

  1. Select Download tool now, and select Run.
  2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
  3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
  4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

  5. Select which media you want to use:
  6. USB flash drive.  Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

Then you can reinstall the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.

Hi,

There is no need to wait for Microsoft to push the update to your PC.

Only one of mine received the update from Microsoft via Windows Update so far.

If you want the 1809 update, just click on the blue Update Now button at the link below...that's what I did...

Can't Restore Backup Files

I had been having minor issues with my laptop, so I contacted HP Support via Twitter to help me. We tried a few things, and eventually had to do a system recovery. I was prompted to backup my files before this process started, so I did with a USB drive. Now, I open the Restore application located inside the backup folder. I follow these instructions and do fine until step 7. It says, "A message displays showing the location to which the files are restored: C:\System Recovery Files", but for me, I am prompted to choose where I want to save the backup files. I created an empty folder in C: to save my backup files to. When I click next, I'm given a message that reads, "HP Recoery Manager failed. Error code = FFFFFF18."

Any help would be appriciated, thanks!

Hi:

You fix the problem by replacing the hard drive.

Consult the Maintenance and Service Guide for your specific model notebook, for the hard drive removal and replacement procedures.

After you replace the hard drive, you can reinstall W10 for free as follows...

I want to reinstall my laptop but because the laptop was pre installed I have to do it with the recovery manager. There is no recovery manager on my laptop and for what I understand I can`t use the productkey that I have so I first have to go back to factory state of the laptop.

Who can help me out?

It is likely that the battery needs to be replaced.

I found two models (yours is likely the second one)
