My question:  Can I buy a used hard drive of any model and put it in the computer and have confidence that my three recovery disks will work.  In other words will the recovery disks that I bought work with any hard drive.  Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

That would depend on your recovery disks more than the hard drive. There have been reports of people with blank recovery disks. Sometimes the DVD blanks used to create the recovery disks are junk.

To make it easy on yourself, I would buy a new hard drive that is 1 TB in size. Do not buy an SSD that is smaller in size.

Did you install Windows 10 drivers?

Action Keys (one-touch function keys) not working

I have recently re-installed the Windows 10 OS, reloaded drivers and updated the BIOS on my 10-p050na notebook. Everything works fine except that the Action Keys are now not working properly. I have to use the Fn key as well as the relevant f-key to mute, change volume, etc. The Action Keys setting in the BIOS is set as Enabled, and I have tried toggling it off and on without any improvement. Is there a specific Action Keys driver or utility, and if so where do I find it?

Hi,

W7 will receive updates on that platform because it has a Skylake chipset and 6th gen core processor.

Microsoft only blocks W7 updates on the Kaby Lake (7th gen core processors) and newer.

Good to hear but HP apparently doesn't have drivers for it, so the OP is on his own.

As I posted earlier, W7 will work just fine by using the drivers from the other model I posted, but unless he modifies the wifi card, it won't work.

Thank you so much for responding and offering your kind help in my quest!  If I am reading the back correctly, it says this is Model 14-ax010ca.  It is a bilingual English-French keyboard version made for use in Canada.  I only got it a couple of years ago off the rack at Staples.

Restoration Incomplete

I want to restore my computer to factory settings.

So I used the HP Recovery Manager with the recovery partition data.

However I get the following message:

"Restoration Incomplete
The restoration did not complete.
Please select one of the following options:
Save logDetailsRetry"

If I click on "Details" appears the window in the image attached.

If I click on "Retry" the Recovery Manager restart.

¿How can I restore my computer?

What does this response have anything to do with your original question?

Re: DPC latency - really high

Hello good sir, I will try to give you as many details as I can.

Before the issue started? no. The first thing i noticed after i started the laptop for the first time was that my audio through the headphones was delayed. I opened latest chrome and a random youtube video and audio started 2-3s after the video. It was in sync just muted/delayed for first 2-3s. So i posted a message here on the forums. So I thought it could be outdated drivers, since its a new laptop. I updated windows, i updated bios and i updated drivers downloaded from your website.

Didnt fix it. I checked the dpc latency and it was very high. So I thought these two problems are related.

So no, I made changes to it AFTER they started happening.

No available updates through Windows or your website. In fact I installed updated drivers from the developers(intel, realtek, nvidia) website in order to find a solution to this, so my drivers are newer yet the problem still exists. I can reinstall HP drivers if needed though. I have them on my drive still.

I checked and both issues happen in any application. Audio is delayed regardless of whether i open a music player or a browser. DPC latency is through the roof even right after booting into windows. I have noticed though that audio is delayed only when i dont do anything with sounds for a while. You know the silent static or hissing sound audio equipment makes when its in use? Seems like drivers are supposed to turn it on and off based on use so you save energy when no sound is being played and turning it on is delayed on my machine. Once its on, the sound works fine.

When it comes to bios, there is no need to reset it. There are basically no options. I am quite disappointed by that. My 300€ work laptop from HP has more options and features than this 1600€ laptop. Theres nothing to reset. I enabled two settings and thats one for Virtual Machines and one for Fans not always on. Changed max baterry charge to 80%. Thats it. I cant even do more. I cant even set dynamic turning of keyboard backlight. This laptop doesnt have an option to turn off the keyboard backlight after a couple of second. Could you please tell this to the devs? Like honestly. My work laptop has it. Its from HP. This one does not. Im baffled. Theres also no silent mode for the fans, like if Im not doing anything the laptop should be silent. Just a couple of improvements I would like to be added.

Anyway, I will do a hard reset and the extensive test right now and post the results when its done.

Those of us who do not work for HP can only provide general guidelines for recovering your password.

I would guess, due to the nature of this type of computer, that you are using a Microsoft account and password as your login.

Solution:

Microsoft Account – Password Reset

When you can't sign in to your Microsoft account

Guidelines

Locked out of your computer?

Finally:

You have to option to take the computer to a licensed Microsoft technician.  Licensed Microsoft technicians can legally (and successfully) help you regain access to your computer.  Be prepared to provide proof of ownership.
