I constantly get an error, because it cannot update Windows 10, there is not enough memory,  I have tried to contact consumer support and cannot get in touch with them.  I still have the 1 year warranty, will HP replace or reimburse me?

Thank you so much for your advice!      Can I ask you one more question about your advice.

I did try and boot the flash drive by using the F9 key, but it doesn't show "boot from USB flash drive... it only shows   "Boot from EFI file"

I will be trying your advice soon on the DVD option and I will let you know.

THANKS!

Sandy

You're very welcome, Sandy.

If you are only seeing the boot from EFI file you may also have to enable legacy mode and disable secure boot in order to boot from the flash drive in your model as well.

With legacy mode enabled, you should see two listings of boot devices.  Legacy and UEFI.

There should be a legacy USB flash drive (sometimes called a diskette on key) and a DVD drive.

I mentioned before that I took out the charger after it started installing software.I let it run on battery until it got to the point that it checked ac power and then I took out the ac charger when it started verifying installation.I think the reason why my laptop restarts if I leave the ac charger in is that it is being overcharged so then it tries to protect itself from getting damaged. So it needs to run on battery power.I have been looking at all the solutions on how to fix windows updates  but nothing has worked yet.I have to mention that I'm starting from scratch so I'm not sure that I can install win 7 sp1 yet.I have tried to download troubleshooter from ms but it runs into problems.I have tried to turn of services like windows updates, cryptographic svc, delete software dis and used command prompt with admin rights with commands and also changed windows update settings to never look for updates and nothing.I just need to get a solution to get windows updates working and get the updates before windows 7 sp1 so I'm going to keep looking until I find something that will work.If anybody is having problems recovering a dv8t 1100 then try what I did and maybe it will work for you,Have a Merry Christmas!

First, let's get our terms straight -- so we're talking about the same thing. It's "disk space" not "memory" that is preventing you from installing Windows Updates.

Second, here are some things you can do to recover some of the "disk" space:

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:

The HP Factory Reset function relies critically on the contents of the Recovery partition being intact. If those contents get corrupted, which can happen either due to hard drive failing or due to Win10 Upgrade from an older OS, the reset simply will not work.

To check for hard drive failing, if your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

Please report back the test results.

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with the computer stuck on Automatic repair screen. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?

Did you try to run any test on the computer?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Run an extensive system test as well as an extensive test on the Hard drive from F2 (Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).

If the test fails, I would suggest this could be a possible hardware failure. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for available service related options.

If the test passes, I Would suggest here is to contact our HP phone support to order a set of recovery media for your PC.

Click here to know more about ordering HP recovery media - HP PCs - Obtaining PC Recovery USB Drives or Discs

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • What is the operating system?
  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Locked out of laptop

I bought this laptop November of 2017, used it for school and haven’t touched it since January. I’m starting school again and for some reason the password I’m trying to use is supposedly wrong. I just need to reset the password so I can log in.

HP Chromebook OS Recovery Fails

I have performed the Chrome OS recovery on my son's Chromebook but it still errors out with a problem that has occurred. I have verified that the recovery files on the USB stick (tried different sticks) are correct and have even tried on multiple USB drives.

Once the USB drive is inserted it starts and the verification completes to the end of the progress bar and then attempts to recover but ultimately errors out with "An unexpected error has occurred. Please refer to this URL for troubleshooting tips: https://www.google.com/chromeos/recovery"

I have tried several times with no luck. I have read online that the computer may be unrecoverable. Is there anything else I can do, or do I need to scrap this unit for parts?

The only caveat to downloading an ISO is you must be able to read the 25 character license key from the COA label attached to bottom of laptop-which by now is often scuffed and illegible. Well, that and you will likely come up short on some drivers and need to get them from your Support page.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-2000-300-notebook-pc-series/5145724/model/5193724

This would actually be my preferred method but not knowing if a poster has tech skills to convert an ISO, do a clean install and install needed drivers makes me hesitate unless asked specifically about it.
