Welcome to the HP Forums!

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.

I understand that when you tried to restore you backup files you received error code =FFFFFF03 on your HP notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

What is the product number of your notebook? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Are you trying to restore your files using HP recovery manager?

Have you tried to run any test on the computer?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP PCs - Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)

and HP PCs - Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems

If the issue persists, I would suggest you run an extensive system test as well as an extensive hard drive test from F2(Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance).

Could you please respond to this post with the details and with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Re: Convert 3 recovery dvd's into USB recovery flash drive

I tried to tell you folks, days ago, that this would not work.

At least with the recovery set I have, the files are not designed to be combined onto a single USB stick -- and doing so, is not going to work.

Sometimes, when HP still has the Recovery Media in stock, they provide an option to purchase a USB stick instead of DVDs. If that option is not available, then you are stuck using the DVDs.

Sorry, you misunderstand how this is done.

You use the adapter with the old drive connected with a different computer, not the old computer.

You do that to find and retrieve the files and copy them to the hard drive of the different computer.

And yes, you could copy them to an external drive, but once again, you need the old drive connected to a different computer.

If the fan truly is not working, then it would need to be replaced -- as the laptop, even if it does start, will overheat very quickly and shutdown.

For repair estimates, you would need to contact an HP Repair or Service Center.
If you live in the U.S., here is a link to the HP Service Repair Centers:

If you live outside the U.S., here is a link to HP Service Centers, by Country/Region: https://support.hp.com/in-en/service-center

Re: What HDD is equipped with laptop 15-d002sr?

If you're asking what BRAND of drive is in the laptop, we would have no way of knowing that for an individual PC.

HP contracts with multiple HDD vendors to supply drives for their PCs.  There is no way to know which specific brand will be in which specific PC.

Most likely, your laptop is one of those that has a 32GB memory stick configured to be the "disk drive" -- and that is not expandable.

Here are some things you can do to recover some of the "disk" space:

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:

You can always FORCE the installation of one or more other OSs on an OEM PC, but when you do that, although it does not violate the factory warranty per se, you DO take on all responsibility for maintaining the PC after that.

You would do best to make a full image backup of your PC before attempting this, as if anything goes wrong, you could have a very difficult time getting your PC back to its current state.

Re: hp pavilion x360 stopped working - black screen

If this were my PC, my PRIORITY right now would be to recover the data from the drive -- since that is critical in the short term -- and worry about getting the PC working after that data is secure elsewhere.

Your best bet for recovering data now is to do the following:
1) Remove the hard drive from the old PC
2) Purchase a USB-to-Hard Driver adapter kit (like the one illustrated below)

 USB-Drive-Adapter.jpg

3) Connect the old drive to a working PC using that adapter
4) Try to retrieve the files and folders you want to save from the old drive and copy them to the new PC.

If this does not work, then you need to do the following:
1) Download and install this utility on a working PC http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/story/recover_data_in_3_steps_with_minitool_power_data_recovery_free_edition.html
2) Run the data recovery utility to see what can be retrieved from the old drive.

If that tool does not find what you need, an alternative is Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva

And, if that does not work well, the best tool out there is this one, but only the trial version is free http://www.file-recovery.com/

Re: RECOVERY MANAGER - Need help in understanding what to do, please....

WAWOOD - Qucik question for you.  On my old computer (the problem one) if I follow the promts on the screen of the RECOVERY MANAGER, I eventually get to a screen where I can choose which Files&Folders I want to "backup".  I see all of the Files&Folders that I want on that FileManagerTree.  If I 'tick-the-boxes' then click OK, what will happen next?  I am guessing those Files&Folders will be "backedup".... but to where?  And I am hoping that as I continue down that RecoveryManager process that somehos the computer cleans itself, then I can go back and fine those Files&Folders that I backupup.... Is that a correct assumption and should I give it a try?

On powering up and running the diagnostics - it shows a Hard Disk Short  DST:  FAILED with Failure ID - Q4SPWM-0009B5-MFKT0J-60XN03. Can anyone explain what this means? and What the solution is? please.

Hi:

The code you received, Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure, means the hard drive has failed, needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

Consult your specific model CQ57 support page for the service guide, which will provide the HDD R & R procedures.

After you replace the HDD, you can reinstall W10 as follows...

To reinstall W10...Use the Media Creation Tool.  Make the 64 bit installation media.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, since your PC is not working.

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

  1. Select Download tool now, and select Run.
  2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
  3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
  4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

  5. Select which media you want to use:
  6. USB flash drive.  Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

Thank you for posting back.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I understand the difficulty with the problem.

Have you tried with external speakers or earphone or headset?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Firstly, let's run the Windows Update Troubleshooter: Click here

Next, uninstall the Audio drivers, from the device manager:

To uninstall a device by using Device Manager, follow these steps:

  • Start Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Device Manager.
  • Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.

Next: Install an updated audio driver

follow the steps below.

  1. Confirm that the computer is connected to the internet.

  2. Click Start, type device into the search field, and then select Device Manager from the list.

  3. Grant permission to continue, if prompted.

  4. Click the + (plus) sign next to Sound, video and game controllers in the Device Manager window.

  5. Figure: Sound Device in Device Manager
Image of Sound Device in Device Manager

  1. Right-click the name of the audio device listed under Sound, video and game controllers, and then click Update Driver Software.
  2. Click Search automatically for updated driver software, when prompted.

  3. Windows checks for and installs any updated drivers. Restart the computer for the settings to take effect.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!

HP Mini 5103 BIOS Update Tool

My school district has a set of HP Mini 5103 mini laptops.  With the atom processor and 2 GB of RAM, they do not run windows very well.  I want to install CloudReady from Neverware so they can run a version of Chrome OS.  That requires a BIOS update.  I have located and downloaded the package to update the BIOS with a USB key.  I cannot get it to run.

The first error is that it gives a warning that device media is write protected:
bios error.PNG

I've done this multiple ways.  I've run the utilitiy on three different USB drives; same result.  I've gone into the registry to change the Storage keys to ensure WritePolicies is set to 0.  I've used DiskPart to remove all read-only attributes.  I've even used DiskPart to create a botable partition on the chance that I could copy files over.  That actually worked, somewhat.  It does not consistently work when I've tried to recreate a process.

This led to the second error: when I did manage to trick the tool into working, it runs the format and copies files over to the USB but doesn't actually run anything:

bios write.PNG

That same device that was write-protected was formatted and had these files copied over, but the process just stops.  I've tried booting from this which failed, not that I am surprised because I have hidden files showing; there are no other files to run at boot.  I've tried running the eRompaq.exe and i get an error that it cannot run on my operating system.  My hypothesis is that not all files are being copied over correctly.  I've manually copied over files but it is still not seen as a system disk.  WhenI boot from EFI file, I can get the BIOS system update to run, but it fails when it starts.

Bottom line is that I need to get the BIOS updated so that I can install a different OS and it is not working.  Please help!!

Thanks in advance.
