I did a recovery from a post last week.  I download drivers and the next morning it was crashing.  I delete partitionas again and loaded windows from the recovery CD.  It stayed up 2 days.  Last night I did windows updates.  will not boot.  I ran a hard drive diag and got this code.

Please tell me what this code is.  I am wondering if the HD is bad.  M4Q3N1-7T7989-MFPWMF-60X003

This was DST error I believe.  If I need a HD can you tell me the brand and model i need to buy.

Thanks

HP Diagnostic download keyboard test

HP sent me a diagnostic test program to download.  The keyboard options they provided did not line up with the keyboard on my laptop nor the extended keyboard, so I picked the one closest to what I do have and the keyboard still failed even though all the keys showed that they were operating.  I am having issues with this system in that when I place the laptop in sleep mode two minutes later I cannot get it to come out of sleep mode.  I need to reboot the system.  The system  has also slowed way down.  It takes approx. eitght minutes for the computer to boot up.  I have run all kinds of tests, checked it for malware, viruses, etc. and tested the hard drive.  All seems to be working well.  The only thing I do not know how to do is to determine and turn off or removed programs that are loading up (that do not need to be loading up) upon booting in.  Can someone tell me what is happening.  So far I have spent $270 and the technicians don't know what is going on.   I was going to replace the hard drive thinking that may be the problem, but even that passed according to the diagnostic test HP sent.  This laptop is not that old.  I need help.

Hi:

Here is a way you should be able to install W8.1 by using the W8 product key in your notebook's BIOS...

Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media using another Windows PC...You want W8.1 64 bit.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.

This is the generic key for W8.1 'standard.'

 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT

Then manually change the generic product key to the W8 'standard' key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.

After you get W8.1 installed, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or usb flash drive so it is bootable.

Then you can install the available drivers and software from your PC's support page.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

To run System Reset, reboot the laptop, pressing the Esc key repeatedly the whole time.  IF this works, you will be presented with a utility menu and one of the entries (usually F11) will be for system reset.  Select that entry.

If that works, you PC will then boot into the HP Recovery Manager which will reformat your drive, recreated the orignal paritions, repopulate those, and reinstall Windows, the drivers, and the HP apps.

IF that does not work, then the Recovery information is corrupted and your only recourse then would be to purchase HP Recovery Media.

HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.

You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836
---------------------------------------
However, HP Customer Support is generally not available on the weekends, so you might have to wait until Monday to contact them.
---------------------------------------

If HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, another site you can check is: http://www.computersurgeons.com

When you get the media, if it is a USB stick, insert it into your PC, pressing F9 to get a Boot menu, then select the External USB Hard Drive to boot from it.

Sorry, but I don't have very good news for you ...

That message means that the filesystem on the drive has become corrupted to the degree that the Windows boot loader files can no longer be read properly.

This can SOMETIMES be repaired by doing something known as a Repair Install using Windows installation media that will copy the needed Windows system files to the drive -- but XP install media had not been available for sale for YEARS now, and none of the online stores carry it any more.

So basically, you are unlikely to find anywhere to obtain an XP disk you could use to make the repairs.

The other likely possibility is that, if this really is an original XP-era hard drive, it is probably failing now and would need to be replaced.  And even if you DID replace it, once again, you would not be able to obtain XP install media to reinstall Windows.

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, your notebook says "Plugged in not charging"

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

When as the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

Could you share the test results of battery in English?

Have you tried checking with an alternate charger?

While you respond to that, let's run an AC Adapter and battery test from F2:

Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  4. The Component Tests menu displays.

  5. In the Component Tests menu, click Power Source and then click Run once.

If the test fails, write down the failure ID (24-digit code).

Also, try uninstalling the driver mentioned in the steps:

  • Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
  • Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
  • Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,
  • Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Let me know how this goes,

Cheers!

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out :)

As I understand, your notebook does not detect the charger,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Does it give an error message?

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

Are you using the original charger that came along with the notebook?

Have you performed a hardware test?

NOTE: Charging light changing from Amber to white means the battery is fully charged.

While you respond to that, let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Run Power Test (Includes Battery and Charger test both):

Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  3. On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  4. The Component Tests menu displays.

  5. In the Component Tests menu, click Power Source and then click Run once.

Let me know how this goes,

Keep me posted!

HP Envy 15t-k100 - system recovery not working, no recovery media available

$

I'm trying to fix a computer for a buddy of mine while he is out of town.

System diagnostics narrowed it down to a faulty memory stick. That has been replaced, and i let it run both full system diagnostics, several loops of memory and hard drive diagnostics. It passes them all.

The system will not boot, and none of the recovery options are working, i tried refresh, system reset, system recovery ... none of the options are working. It either loads for every, or starts blinking crazy. System reset says the partition is missing. I figure the Windows installation was messed up pretty bad.

I'm not finding an option to order a recovery disk from the HP system page. Virtual Agent is useless, it just goes in circles.

Please advise.

Hi:

If the person had previously taken the free upgrade to W10, all they need to do is to reinstall W10 by using the Media Creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If asked for a product key during the installation process, check the 'Skip' box, and W10 will install and automatically activate once connected to the internet.

If the person would like to know more specifics about the W8.1 product key in the PC's BIOS, then can run this free utility I have zipped up and attached below, after they install W10.

Hi:

I can't help you with why the HP recovery system isn't working, but you can always clean install W10 for free by using the Media Creation Tool at the link below, using another Windows PC.

You need to create the 64 bit installation media.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The tool will allow you to make a bootable USB flash drive (you need an 8 GB USB flash drive for this), or save an ISO file that you can burn to a DVD.

The software will work with the W10 product key in the notebook's BIOS and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Then you can install the drivers and available software from the notebook's support page.
