If it is stopping you from entering BIOS setup- you can do a Factory reset but it will not clear BIOS password.
Please give Kudos and accept as solution if it helped you for other users who are looking for solution to the same problem.
Thanks
If you have the old hard drive booting now- try making Recovery Media to use with the new drive.
Hi I have a dv4220tx pravilion. Which the old battery was showing 0% and the charger was flashing on and off. So tring the charge the battery.

Given as a gift, found password once, by luck, never wrote it down. It works .Windows 10 recently installed, gave it to me to learn windows 10 before I install it on my own computer. Have the original product number, key, etc. if that would help.
First time on Discussion Boards and any help would be greatly appreciated. SJB

Are the HP recovery managers hardcoded to the original stock hard drive?.....
Hi,
No, this won't work, you have to create Recovery set, not backup. You can't create recovery set from other software. Too late now. Please order a set from HP
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07143
You can then use recovery set using different HDD but it must be equal or larger (capacity) of the original HDD.

Alas. It still has the same result, windows logo with loading animation then blank screen with a cursor that only pops out if I touch the screen. I think some remnants of windows 10 is still in my hard drive because when I just let it startup normally it gives me an error code 0xc0000185 and tells me im missing a file
Very sorry...new to the message boards and apologize for incorrect questions or process.
Someone kindly answered my problem by trying some input numbers that did not work. I wanted to say thank you but cant find original listing ( ? ). Thanks again for the one who gave me the numbers, but still can't get reset password. Any other ideas would obviously help me immensely...sjb358

Edition: Windows 10 Home

Hi,
That's is ok for a clean install if you already have Windows 10 key. Did you perform free Windows 10 upgradeon this machine before, if yes, you don't need to buy a key as long as you install the SAME Windows 10 version/edition.
Regards.
Is the push-button reset a good idea; If there are any files on the drive , I don't need them. I just need to get on the newly uprated to windows 10 desktop that worked before but didn't write down the password.....!! thanks, sorry for any inappropriate questions. sjb
Hi
Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.
Re. your restart issues: please, clarify when it restarts:
-1- does it happen with some message on screen - like from Windows -> Restarting like >here<
or
-2- it feels like power loss , screen become black/blank instantly and then you need to start it
or
-3- some error appears for a second on screen like blue screen (BSOD) - like >here< and then restarts
Would you clarify?
Re. -1- it may be Windows 10 updating your PC, installing some update. As you probably heard, Windows 10 updates on its own and this cannot be controlled by users. Not much can be done other than ensuring you have all updates installed for the moment.
Re. -2- test for hardware issue - UEFI BIOS hardware diagnostics >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1
Re. -3- update your drivers for your hardware. Here is how >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03330139
Also, check for viruses/malware.
Use the free HitmanPro from SurfRight/Sophos >> http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro
Looking forward to your update. Hope this help.

I havent had access to the primary administrator UserName in over 2 years. Thankfully when I was given this Laptop, the one who purchased it created a username and login for there self or else I would have been without a laptop until I was able to purchase a MAC book like all the other smart people in the world. I have gone through HP products like water in a drought. I HATE HP. Now I was given a brand new printer and I cant even use it because it wont allow me to download the software for the printer without having access to the administrators login. I KNOW THE ADMINISTRATOR'S LOGIN IN PASSWORD however when I go to type it in and press OK, it says the USERNAME doesnt exist.
I saw someone with a very similar problem as me post about this before however the person who replied and possibly fixed the problem sent the solution to the person directly instead of posting for ALL TO SEE. (isnt that what a forum is for?) Not just to privately direct message it to them......
SO IF YOU KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS IT WOULD BE GREAT PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH THE SOLUTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!!
EMAIL DIRECTLY OR REPLY BACK TO ACTUALLY HELP OTHERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THIS AS WELL...
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.
Have you tried turning off UAC to see if that works?
When I try to log into my account it won't log into mine. I get logged into like a default account and it says "We can't sign into your account. This problem can be fixed by signing out of your account and signing back in..." I've tried signing out and signing back in but it keeps doing the same thing. Can anyone please help?
Thanks for your program. It really saved me !
I just bought a second hand EliteBook 2540p that had a BIOS password but my vendor did not know it at all. I will now be able to reinstall it with Linux.
